Hi guys I've got a baotian 50cc scoot I've got an issue with the front headlight it's really dim until I apply either brake then it lights up how it should.... Tried running separate earths to both tail unit and headlight with no change any idea what could cause this??

Just a quick thought, it seems there may be a ground on the power side (12vdc+) of headlight ckt.

The headlight runs off the stator, brake lights should run off the battery, I think. I would start back tracking the power side and see if there's a slight open in the line.

If the stator was the problem why would it light up when the brake is applied that's the bit I can't work out.... My mates put a multimeter on it and it shows roughly 2 volts without brake applied then 12v with brake on he's leaning towards the control switch what do you think don't really want to order the parts till I'm sure what's causing it??

I would check the voltage at the switch. Something downstream might be affecting the voltage and it gets volts when the brakes are applied that isn't there before you do.
