While I was waiting for parts to do my PDI I had time on my hands and you know what they say about idle hands....
I had to remove my snorkel to clear the baskets I put on my scoot. I pulled the cap with 4 holes off and just put it directly on the airbox instead of the snorkel. I have no screen or anything in the cap. My valve cover vent tube went to the side connector on the snorkel so I had to find somewhere else to vent it. I just have a hole in my airbox for it's drain, -no tubing. I ran the valve cover vent to a plugged off port on the side of my carb inlet tube. There is higher vacuum on the back side of the filter so to compensate I put a 1/8"ID orifice into the valve cover vent tube. I figure it will make my carb dirtier over time but a shot of carb cleaner when I change the oil should take care of that. I really don't know what the long term effects will be. I figure the loss of the snorkel will make the scoot louder but I have never had it running with the snorkel on to tell. The snorkel looked like an intake silencer system to me. I don't know anything though, especially about scoots. My auto knowledge all came from old school cars, trucks, and lawnmowers with points and condensers b4 them newfangled computors and electeronical igniters thingys.

That piece is to balance the aif-fuel mix. If you remove it without up jetting i bet it wont run properly.

OOOPPS. How can I tell if the air fuel mix is wrong? The scoot seems to be running well and breaking in nicely. I have great throttle response and no hesitations. I think the exhaust has a catalytic converter so my old Heathkit combustion analyzer won't work. I suppose I could weld in an O2 sensor bung. Do they make an exhaust port adapter for that?

It must have been running rich then because most will stumble off the line with that removed. Whats your plug look like?
The guy that runs 49cc.com has a AF meter installed on his exhaust with a welded bung. Research 90GTVERT on you tube. Some awesome stuff.

The plug is not coming out until I have to replace it. I have no feeling in my hands and I may have cross threaded the plug the last time I installed it. The scoot is running well so I will leave well enough alone at the moment. That snorkel looked more like an intake silencer of a type used on many vehicles than something to change the A/F mixture. I have no temperature related problems or starting problems. It starts at a touch of the starter button when cold. Warm and hot starts require that I crack the throttle about 1/4". Cold, warm, and hot idle are good.

If its too lean then youll be replacing that plug when you tear it down to rebuild it before the plug wears out. I have never seen a stock scoot run well with intake modified.
