I have some sort of oil catch tube that simply has a clear hose and is plugged. It it supposed to be connected to the snorkel tube that is also blocked off? Attachments:

looks like the catch tube from your air filter box. You will normally get some oil in there and this just catches it instead of it getting blown all over you engine and causing a mess. Check it out once in a while to see if it needs to be emptied and it can also be an indication that you have a problem someware if it fills up fast.

What you want to do with the VALVE COVER VENT HOSE is put a fuel filter on the end of it and zip tie it higher than the valve cover. That way no mess in the air box and soaking up the air filter and if any oil squirts out from high crankcase pressure when you shut it off it will drain back down. Alleyoop

Yep, that is just a breather BUT that is where the AIR BOX gets its air SO if and when the OIL squirts into that breather it will go into the AIR BOX and soak up the Filter with OIL. You see THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW, DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW Alleyoop

alley(with a small "a") is right...Chinese DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW. that's why there is a BAD need for a PDI when you buy their scooters..lol to find out that there is broken headlight bulb, broken killswitch, broken toggle switch, speedo not working, blinkers not blinking, right turn signal turns left,LOL...hey we're talking about a brand new merchandize here... goodness!!!
again...BRAND NEW!

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news about the info your getting BUT all your brand scoots get a PDI from the dealers. The problem is there are no Brick and Motor shops that sell the cheaper scoots. So what you get is the scoots in the crate the way they came from overseas. Same thing with the brand scoots EXCEPT that when the dealer gets the crated scoots they put them together and PDI them and put them on the showroom floor. You need some learning, gets tiring having to teach you everything. Alleyoop

I have the same tube on Rocket. Every year I drain the gunk that collects inside. It has the crud that goes into the air filter through the breather and is separated and dropped into the drain. It's fine. Just drain it when it looks full.

But Theres a lot of pressure coming off the valve cover. This looks like a sealed system. How is the pressure relieved if its got a plug in the tube?
Better yet, why not just remove the whole thing and just have that one line coming off the valve cover and putting a filter on the end of that, bypassing the rest?? Is that doable?

YEP Exactly now you know what happens when it cannot breath and if it gets really bad watch it blow some seals and gasket on the motor due to the pressure. But hey I will let the experts answer since they believe otherwise Alleyoop

So....unplug it and put on the filter and leave it open?
Why not just eliminate the whole setup and run the line off the valve cover and put a filter on that and plug the line going to the air box? Whats all the rest for?

Exactly my friend, get rid of the whole canister and plug up where it connects to the Air box. It is just another possible problem ready to happen. You already the answer from the other forum ;D Alleyoop

It's not sealed. The hose from the LOWER END breather goes to the air filter where, in the old days, they let the condensation get sucked into the air filter. Now the hose goes into a labyrinth valve that lets the air fumes get sucked into the engine, and burned, and the gunk and condensation drip into the hose. Back when nasty 396 Chevies had a simple breather hose, that blew unfettered into the air filter, the air filter would get wet and slimy. They employ the same basic system you have in a few zillion automobiles annually.
I'm not looking for an argument but judging from his questions it sounds like he really doesn't know. Here's what his questions sound like to me.
"Did they put this plug on my engine to make it blow up??"
No. It's part of an anti-pollution system put on the scooter to get it through the Fed DOT Emissions test. Not a nefarious scheme to make you spend money.
