I hit a big pothole on an overpass approach last week. I thought it had torn off my muffler because suddenly my exhaust was very loud. I pulled over on the other side of the overpass and had a look but found no pipes hanging off etc. What I didn't notice was the internal baffle(?) had come unscrewed and exited the muffler. I now have what looks like a 28mm ID hole with about a 30mm thread and I can see all the way down inside the muffler. I have not been back to visit that pothole again. The part I lost is probably long gone.
Question 1: What is that part called?
Question 2: Where do I get a replacement?
Question 3: Can I just stuff a banana or potato, rags or aluminum foil down that hole to make it quiet?
I don't like the additional noise. Is this the part some people remove to make more noise? I must be getting OLD....
One of the bad things about trikes is that they are wide making it difficult to avoid potholes. One or more wheels are bound to hit it. I rode down a rutted gravel road two weeks ago and it was very twitchy. It was a good thing I learned to drive on gravel or sand roads. One must just point the wheels and go with the flow or ride through it.

Some mufflers are tunable. They have a threaded tip that controls back pressure and sound. Sounds like you are running in full performance mode now.

Thanks guys! I did not notice any performance increase, just a noise increase, and I was going uphill at the time. When I look down inside I can see the perforations in the inner tube. I ASSUME it is like most any other muffler and there is packing or baffles around the outside of the inner tube. I just need to match that thread size for some sort of plug to hold it in. I will look and see what I can find. Maybe even some exploded diagrams of what is supposed to be there. I had noticed that threaded plug when I first inspected the scoot. I ASSUMEd again that there was some sort of locking mechanism to keep it in place. I didn't expect it to come loose and blow out. I would have punched or pinned the threads otherwise. Maybe I should just weld on a two foot length of 1-1/4" schedule 40 pipe with a 90° el on the end and call it good. Just point it away from me. My muffler is turned up at even more of an angle than Red's which brings it even closer to the ear.

The thread title reminded me of something.... (Just for you Frankie...LOL)
A couple had been married for many years and the husband had a habit of ripping off a full load of gas in the morning. His wife had been telling him for years to quit because of the smell. she also told him that one day he would expel his guts along with the gas. One morning, she was fixing a turkey for dinner and she had an idea. Taking the innards, she warmed them a bit and then sneaking into the bedroom, she put them in the husbands underwear. Then a while later she was back in the kitchen when she heard him rip one off. Then came a scream. After about 20 minutes, the husband came into the kitchen. "You were right" he said. "I finally blew my guts out. But with a lot of prayer and a bit of vaseline, I think I got them all back in."

No performance gain without adding fuel so its just louder There goes my fuel savings. Oahu: So THAT'S what happened 5 years ago! I had awful gas, blew chunks, and had the most disgusting runs for days on end. I thought I hadn't got something back in right. She must have added Tabasco and pepper to the innards when she warmed them. My AH is still sore.

That X-ray machine must be high def to be able to read the numbers. She mixed that in with the guts too... I wondered where it went. Thanks, that explains the continuing problems. Send the X-rays back to the lab with just one stamp to make it postage due along with a brick. They will eventually get them to the right place.
If you think medical service is bad now just wait for them to fold the VA in with the ACA in a few years as a 'cost savings'.
Are the Brits mad enough about the NSA to burn down Washington again? The Germans and French would probably help them. Putin would probably provide plenty of incendiary devices for free. Maybe someone should call them. Damn, they are monitoring the phone lines and email. A letter will have to go by snail mail. Will those 'forever' stamps make it to England?

Speaking of guts.. Here ya go .. > A man met a nice girl at a bar. They hit it off right away and the man asked the girl if she wanted to go cruising. So they did for a while and she wanted to park. It was a clear moon-lit nite and they were kissing and making out in a parking spot deep in the woods.. She said "wait a sec honey", and she went to the back of the car.. He was lookin out the rear view mirror and saw she had her pants down. He noticed something 12 inches long, 2 inches wide swinging between her legs. He was like " whuuuuuuuuuut!!!!!" So he sneaked around the the back of the car and GRABBED what he saw dangling between her legs and snatched it!! "Oh!" she said, " I didnt know you were watching!"" "Oh" He said.. " I DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE TAKIN' A SH*T either !! " LMAO

It looks like I am going to have to fab something. I wish I had my metal lathe operating. I could match the thread easily. I will have to get busy with my thread gauges which ain't easy on ID threads for an old half blind guy.
There seem to be lots of cores, exhaust baffles, and spark arresters but I have not found anything that looks like it will fit. It may be easier to just buy a complete new muffler.
With a 30mm thread and 28mm opening I figure a piece of 3/4 or 7/8 OD tubing 6-8" long with a large number of holes drilled in it may work. A suitable size flat washer welded over the end may work OK. The trick will be to fit it to the threads or get it to slip fit and securing it.
Maybe even cutting the outer case off of a replacement lawnmower muffler and dropping the guts in will work.
This is a PITA but I can't stand the noise.
