Ok, I have a old yamaha at1 125 and it was in desperate need of rings. So I go through all the steps and go to kick it over and the kickstart is stuck. I thought maybe i've done something wrong and take it all back apart. Put it all back and nothing again. I push with the head off and it doesnt move. Am I right in guessing something is just jammed up or broken in the kickstart? If so what would you guys think it would be?

How about remove enough of the kick starter to disengage it from the engine. Then take the plug out and rotate the engine by hand. If it rotates then the kick starter is jamming things up. If it won't rotate its the engine that's froze.

If you left everything the same except took the head off then it's something to do with the head. Timing chain, cam,.... I'm just floating balloons here, sorry if I'm Captain Obvious. Let us know what shakes out, I'm curious.

The AT-1 is a two stroke if memory serves. It shouldn't be that critical but are the base and head gasket in place? I would put the head back on, unbolted, and move the kickstarter and see if the head rises and falls. If it doesn't, slowly tighten the head and see at what point it locks. I can't tell without being there but something isn't fitting anymore and needs to be addressed.

A long time ago, in a Galaxy far, far away, there were once engines that had no valves, no camshafts, no nothing but ports and pistons. Marvelous devices that burned gas like sailors using booze on shore leave and smoked like......sailors on shore leave. Today those motors have come to our planet and hide in chain saws and leaf blowers waiting to foul the air here. Every so often one of those motorcycles land in a saucer and are left behind to corrupt unsuspecting humans.

Yes it is a 2 Stroke, But check on the other side where the gears turn the chain maybe the chain is partially off the sprocket or stuck half on. Alleyoop
