Hi, my name's sean,
Seems a friendly forum to what i've seen so far. I found this site through having having problems my self with my Sym Symply t 4 50 ,it's smoking like a banshee after i fitted new piston and rings, i didn't buy it new so i guess i'm finding out what the previous owners been up to. It was bought as a none runner (took my chance) The valves were a mile off their settings there is no airbox just one of those metal gauze cone efforts so i'm guessing the jettings either been tampered or its something else i've to sort.
The scooter is a 2011 model
Being a newb i'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction on here
Sean

Welcome to the forum. I don't know anything about fixing scooters but most of the people on here do. I just wanted to say Hi and Welcome. ;-)

Aloha (welcome in Hawaiian) from Hawaii!
From what I've read here, you need to restrict the airflow a bit. I'm no expert by any means, but try this;
Get some tape and start covering the air filter one thin strip at a time and see if that helps. If that's what it is, then you will get to a point where it levels out and runs smooth.
Keep us updated. I'm sure one of the experts will pipe up soon.

I'm assuming that the piston and rings are new but the cylinder isn't. It sounds like the rings haven't seated in yet. The cylinder glazes after a while with the old piston and the usual technique to help is to run a hone through the cylinder or sand it to break the glaze and give the rings a slightly rougher surface to break in on. I wouldn't worry about it too much as the rings will eventually break in.
How is it running otherwise?

Welcome to the forum. I started with a new scoot and figured I was still taking a chance. At least it sounds like you know something about scoots. Good luck with it!
? -Did you get all the rings in right side up? I don't know about scoot rings but normal engines have a mark on the rings.

also to add to what FrankenMech said, did you make sure you staggered the ring gaps? if you didnt it will let oil pass and burn it. WELCOME to the forum!

But the traditional garb of my ancestors keeps the vitals so nice and cool in the summer time. ;D
-And so frosty in winter...
Maybe I should try it Wednesday, it is supposed to be 35°F out.
Sorry, I will not be posting pictures or video due to the Mature subject matter.

Crazy! I resemble that remark. ;D
Interesting people are all insane.
Sean, have you made any progress on the oil control?
There are some great tech articles in the 'Library' here.
