Wndering if a rich pilot can yield a black base ring? If the main was lean could the base ring still be black?
Either way mine has a black base so Im dropping down the pilot size and the main from 85 to 80.

Yes if base is black that is your Pilot Jet to much you can try leaning the fuel ratio screw turn it clockwise. If you can turn the fuel ratio screw clockwise and kill the motor about 1 turn before it stops your pilot jet is fine. If it idles the highest when the screw is 1 or 1 1/2 turns before it stops your pilot jet it to big. Alleyoop Here is how to read a plug:

The main was too big after all. Put in a 30 and it runs great. No more stumble off the line. Idles nice too. Since Ive put 2000 miles on it Im betting its not too lean on the main or id know by now. See no conditions of detonation so its probably good to slightly rich. Ill leave the main alone at 85

Good job, a lot of folks make that mistake they think putting in a big jet will make it go 900mph(HAHA). Actally what it does is you loose power because of to much fuel which it cannot burn and floods it. You also are just wasting fuel. Alleyoop
