The springs in my 2 carbs are very different. One is narrow and mushy and the other carb has a fat and rigid spring. Was wondering if a lighter spring replacing the rigid one would give better throttle response?

When lifting the slide through the opening the one with the less stiff spring opens smoother.

You need a nice strong spring so it drops the slide down and gets the motor down to idle. You do not want to have a slider not dropping down when you want it to. Not a good experience trying to slow down and the motor is racing. The response is in your wrist and throttle handle.

ok. ANy idea why some needles are secured to the bottom of the slide and some just "float"? My Keihin just has a cap that goes over the needle and you can push the needle up and down by hand but my Deni carb has a cap that covers the needle and twists with a philips head to lock the needle down into the bottom of the slide and it wont move if you push up on it?

Just different manufactures they cannot copy the others way of holding the needle down. All the needles will have a little play to so they follow the tube moving up and down and do not bind. I personally like the needles with a "C" clip and the needle has 5 slots so you can adjust them very easy. Others you have to put tiny washers to either lift them or drop them and you can only move them so much.
