Hey guys,,,since i've never owned a scooter before i'd like to ask about the difference between 150cc and 50cc 4 stroke scooters,,, and also 2stroke 50cc ( i hear they're thirsty),,the numbers i'm getting off the net have my et4 anywhere between 40-60 mpg with some saying they are getting 80+,,,and i know how it's ridden has alot to do with it,,,i got a feeling when i get the et broken in it'll settle in around 70 mpg if i drive normal commuting,,,and i'd think a 50cc 4 stroke will set in around 100mpg ,,,as far as overall performance i'm actually impressed with the vespa it has pretty good snap for a 150cc,,,, and i know the 50cc isn't going to be a ball of fire and is mainly for the wife to see if i can ease her into 2 wheels,,,and yes i'll use it too,,,,,any thoughts advice will be appreciated thanks

As far as I am concerned the difference between a 150 and and a 50 in terms of cost per mile is pocket change. Get the scooter that will do the job. No matter 50 or 150 you normally are not going to go far enough with either in a month to spend more than a couple bucks more on one for gas.
Its like the guy who drives a mile to save 2 cents a gallon when gas costs 3.499 a gallon!

The numbers you have have are in the ball park Borg. A 50cc will score anywhere from 80-100 mpg while a 150cc gets 50-75. I've heard of more from the fuel injected models but not so much to justify the additional cost. A 50cc is a good start for a new rider and a good tool for runs to the local convenience store or Post Office. That's not to say a skillful rider couldn't go further, I did 80 mile trips on my 50cc bike, just not people like Luke. They need a trailer.
Be careful how much you spend on that 50cc for your wife. I bought the 150cc scooter for my wife and three weeks after putting it together she wanted a Honda Rebel.

Noted alley,,,my guesstimations of mpg is me doing a sane even handed ride,,,just cruising and not trying to wring the very last ounce of speed out of the thing,,,my last brush with small high performance engines in cars were very well built two valve vw bugs,,,1600-1835cc aircools,,,,,romp on them they would wheelie,,,,just putting along on the freeway almost 40 mpg ,,, i'm still learning but i'm sure flow dynamics for these heads will mirror what i know from car and bigger bike engines that i've done in the past,,and found 4 valve heads for 50 and 150cc engines which is a game changer for these engines,,,it's going to be a very interesting 3-4 years coming up i can smell it,,,already sourced micro superchargers for 50cc in germany,,,,that and a mild regrind cam it's goin to be very interesting indeed,,,
