Hi there! I don't own a scooter and I have very little understanding of EGR systems. However, I am currently studying an invention/innovation module towards a BSc degree. I'm wondering if it might be possible to create a system that would heat a pannier - in order, for example, to keep pizza warm during delivery. I think VW had a system for some of their cars for diverting the heat from exhaust emissions to warm the car's interior. Please excuse the fact that I don't (yet) own a scooter...and my less than technical question. Best, David

Dump Trucks used to haul hot asphalt have a simple deflector valve that runs hot exhaust gases around the dump body instead of straight out the exhaust pipe. VWs used a similar system with a cable operated valve that had the cooling fan blow over the exhaust pipes and into the car.
A simple solution for what you want to do would be to have a pipe fit over the end of the exhaust and run around the heated box before exiting. VW used plastic hoses lined with heat resistant material to connect the engine to the car body. A similar system would be needed to accommodate the engine moving with the suspension on a scooter.

;)I would invent a stonger box. Then you could just sit on it as you made the delivery

twowheeler: ...so the heat would come from....?! No, it's more horrid than 250 lbs and you do not want to know. It will haunt you.
EGR is technically exhaust gas recycling and involves recycling exhaust gas through the engine to burn off some unspent fuel. Having said that, I don't know that anybody has a copyright on that term and it might be used for just heating via an exchanger. I drove one of those VWs with the "heat exchanger" and it was supposed to impart heat to the inner duct work, exhaust gas free, through this "exchanger". Did you know carbon monoxide has a greater affinity for the hemoglobin molecule than oxygen?! Yeah!....Big time! And that since it displaces oxygen depleted hemoglobin it turns you bright red even though you're suffocating!? Yeah big time! I know, it happened to me. I stepped out of my bug after a long stretch and my girlfriend shrieked when she saw me...well..she usually did that. But it was because I was bright red and then passed out. I got OK, but not everybody does. Be careful of systems that use exhaust heat for human comfort, or anything else. They can be killers.

Your lack of compassion for human suffering sickens me yet is somehow refreshing.

Here's another thing to consider? When routing hoses/pipes from the exhaust you will essentially throttle the engine down with additional exhaust pressure. So can one get enough air along with the fuel to keep the engine running at a peak performance? In the summer time the engine will run a lot hotter.
A person might consider a 11-pole stator upgrade with a small heating coil to keep a box warm? Even some 1157 12volt car bulbs with both the brake and tail light filaments on at the same time will create considerable heat while not overloading a 11-pole stator.
One could make a custom box with aluminum foil backed insulating foam that would stay very warm with only two or three bulbs going.

There is cooler /heaters made to plug into cig lighters Yes but the standard 8-coil stator on a 150cc will not handle it and you'll end up with a fried electrical system and walking to a dead battery.
