see the red wire with the black stripe . when the key is in the run position check to see if 12vdc is present . If not then it is ac fired .

I'm 90% certain it's AC. It has the red/black wire which most likely is from the stator. As John said "what is all this then?" He means if it's 12v DC with the key on it's a DC fired CDI and someone used an atypical wire color. It's usually black from the ignition switch if it's DC. At one time there were hardly any black/white kill wires on a DC CDI system. It shut off with the key when the battery power to the CDI shut off. Now you'll see DC CDIs with a kill wire in the two port. The end is nigh.

The giveaway it is a AC CDI is the BLACK/WHITE killwire. You will not find a DC CDI with a KILLWIRE because the cutoff for a DC CDI is to shut off the flow of 12v. Alleyoop Here is what a DC CDI LOOKS LIKE:   |
