We are talking about a 50cc scoot on an interstate not a bike that can do 90 miles an hour. On an interstate they are doing at least 65+ and here is this little putt putt doing way below the speed limit. Coming around a turn or maybe over a hill and that car that is doing 65+ is upon that little putt putt with the guy all hunched over to not not slow it down more and BAM your toast. Your a single silhouette which makes it even harder to spot. NOT GOOD ADVICE keep those putt putts off any road if they cannot do the SPEED LIMIT.
NOW THAT IS GOOD ADVICE Alleyoop

We are talking about a 50cc scoot on an interstate not a bike that can do 90 miles an hour. On an interstate they are doing at least 65+ and here is this little putt putt doing way below the speed limit. Coming around a turn or maybe over a hill and that car that is doing 65+ is upon that little putt putt with the guy all hunched over to not not slow it down more and BAM your toast. Your a single silhouette which makes it even harder to spot. NOT GOOD ADVICE keep those putt putts off any road if they cannot do the SPEED LIMIT. NOW THAT IS GOOD ADVICE Alleyoop Let's see if I can patiently explain all the things wrong with this. 1) I said I was doing 45 to 50 mph. Let's say that mythical car is doing 75 mph. Let's see the closure rate is a whopping 25 mph, about as fast as a teenager on a bicycle. I think a driver will be able to react to that. Maybe not an 80 year old with cataracts but a normal driver should. 2) A smart rider is constantly monitoring his surroundings. Watching his mirrors in a dangerous situation, being aware of vehicles far behind and their closure rates. Also staying near the shoulder that all interstates have in case he needs to bail and let a vehicle past. 3) Rocket is not a Putt-Putt. It doesn't suffer from the efficiency loses of a poor belt drive scooter. It would take a highly tuned two stroke 50cc to stay with me. On a slight downhill recently I saw 60 mph. 4) The minimum speed on a 65 mph road in New York State is 50 mph. What you don't know is that the Interstate section I rode on was 55 mph with a minimum of 40 mph. Apology accepted. Riding a scooter or motorcycle is not a matter of horsepower. That thinking was prevalent in the driving of the 60s where if you were a smart driver you put a 400 or 427 in your overweight Impala or Olds 98. We Baby Boomers disproved that thinking with smaller, lighter more efficient VWs, Toyotas and Hondas. No a Good rider understands the math, physics, physical science, visual and mental acuity needed to succeed. Everybody else relies on their right wrist.

yes constantly monitor the surroundings,,head swiveling at all times i want to know exactly who is around me at all times everytime,,this is why i run two mirrors also,,,i just got the second one on yesterday,,i missed it as i use them constantly, along with head turns,,and i always leave an out,,and also the way people drive around here,,i was and still am a little leary of getting a 50,,just not fast enough,,,45mph roads which are 75% of secondary roads around here i'm doing 50-55 cars are passing me like i'm changing a flat,,,i would never consider the vespa on the freeway even between two exits,,,75-80 is the order of the day,,,and finally we motrcyclists are more aware of bikes and our surroundings when we drive 4 wheels more than the average schmo,,,

Your a danger on the road is all I have to say with thinking like that. The people on the road are not race car drivers that know how to control a car having to swerve to avoid hitting something they come upon on the road. Not only that but cars and trucks passing you will blow the putt putt around like no bodies business. Your explanation of staying near the shoulder does not cut it, ever see all the trash on the shoulder pieces of tires cans and whatnot. You get on it to avoid getting run over and the putt putt runs over something it will be all over the place.
Love the downhill mention, now you really sound like one that is bent over the handlebars to gain speed(How Old Are You...HAHAHA). You should know down hill speeds don't count, a ball will roll faster rolling down a hill but try up hills and headwinds then you will know what a power house your putt putt really is. Try it with a car hold it at a certain speed and go up a hill or some incline and notice the mph start to drop. But at least with a car you have lots more power so you can give it more gas and keep up the speed but your putt putt is already at wide open throttle and you will cause a back up on the interstate(HAHA).
Be smart like the rest of us and keep that putt putt off high speed roads your endangering peoples lives and your own riding putt putts on highways. If a cop came upon you he would no doubt pull you over and tell you to get that putt putt off the highway. Alleyoop

Enjoyed many Morns. on the 101 and the 405. Holly Schmolly! traffic would go from 3mph to 85+ in seconds bumper to Bumper Door handle to Door handle and me driving a Clapped out Company Van just trying to stay the heck out of the way. Then Watch Out! A Bike would lane split right up between doing a Buck Ten. A small cc scoot on the highway reminds me of being back in Amish country closing in on a Buggy. amazing more of them don't get killed.

Here it's only 55, the same as the State Roads. More power is NEVER the answer. Knowing your surroundings, constant monitoring and being aware is. Also hurling insults doesn't win arguments. It only shows how small minded someone is. Just ask Proboards.

I don't like to ride the slab myself but sometimes i'll jump on with the dr,,,it'll do 100 or so, not too bad for a quazy dirtbike,,,it gets mighty busy in the engine department at 80-85 tho so i try to avoid it anyway i can,,,and to me it's boring riding anyways,,,,

Making a vehicle pass on the Scoot takes a Half hour or so putting you in blind spots for extended periods of time. On my Blade i set up a four wheeler several length's back and make sure first I can see the driver and he can see me in his mirror. Once Im confident I just think of the Throttle on the Blade, Squirt and make the pass, spending as little time possible keeping myself in blind spots. When In Doubt Throttle Out! Or Follow me Pass Me Just Get Off My Corners!! Just not following the Comparison of 60's 5,000lb cars with Big Block's to 70's Yota's, Datsun's and Honda's. Maybe compare Horse Power to Weight Ratio be Mo Better? Or better a 1967 GT500 Mustang to the? was Yota here in 67?

More power is not the answer WOW! Now that is coming from someone that supposedly raced dirt bikes. Not hurling insults just trying to get you to understand that what your trying to sell is VERY BAD ADVICE and you should know better. That poor explanation that the speed limit is only 55 now that is someone that does not know the real world out there. Whatever the speed limit is on any road you can bet your bottom dollar 99% of the traffic is doing AT LEAST 5-10mph faster. So that puts putt putts behind the 8 ball doesn't it or should I say on the grill of a car. Alleyoop
