I decided to revisit my orange cdi I bought awhile back. I noticed that when I ctart thr scoot it starts very quick...almost too quick but probably not quite kickback that ive read about. Any downsides to this quick starting or minor kickback? Read more: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/8360/cdi-kickback#ixzz2wVn7NZYy

I can't use that link....I'm banned. Yeah, kickback is bad. One concept of an internal combustion engine is that it spins fast enough that the crank is past TDC so that the vertical force on the piston from combustion exerts a lateral force on the connecting rod as well as vertical. Yes, I know it fires before TDC, that's how fast it's moving. Of course the timing changes at different RPM to make sure the power stroke doesn't slam down vertically through the crank or even try to push it backwards. There's even startup timing in the CDI. GY6s seem to be prone to kickback. It can't be the pickup coil...it's fixed. It has to be in the CDI, or mechanical dysfunction in the engine, there are no other factors. One of my theories is you do a BBK and use the old starter. You've got your old CDI, or maybe a new one not set up for that BBK. The starter doesn't spin the motor fast enough and the CDI sets off combustion before the crank has made it past the critical point. I also had a GY6 with some wear on the connecting rod and it was kicking back. The little bit of wear was holding the piston back just enough to upset the power stroke on start up. I would push the engine past compression and then it would start freely. It gave it a chance to get spinning. Rich

What is the point of that stupid link? What do you have a little 50cc or a big 150cc? Makes a difference on the kickback damage that can happen. Alleyoop

It's called Tynt or some crap like that. I can disable it on Doc but it doesn't stop them from coming in. It is kind of a PITA. What it is designed to do is get people to come to your forum. You click on the link and then your on that thread via that post. See, theoretically I might click on that link and go to Brent's forum and...oh wait....I'm BANNED!!!
