My scoot came with the longer muffler and by all accounts that is for a 150cc where the shorter fat one in listed for a 50. Whats the difference and why does the longer one come on my scoot? WOuld it run better with the short muffler? Heres the sale page www.motopartsmax.com/index.php/main_page/index/cPath/233/bID/1Heres my scoot with the long muffler from the factory.

That is an aftermarket muffler that did not come that way from the factory. Alleyoop

HUMMM, maybe the regular muffler that usually are shorter and quieter where to restrictive for that scoot so they slapped on a 150cc muffler. WHICH Is good by the way, the longer the muffler the quieter they are with less restrictions inside. Normally on the 50s you will find short mufflers but they have lots of baffles inside and very restrictive that is why they are so quiet.
Or the EPA HAVE NOT YET Caught this guys with a none restrictive muffler(HAHA). Alleyoop

So generally speaking your not necessarily limited to 50cc style mufflers when looking for replacements?

No your not, it just also depends on the mounts. You can put a car muffler on a scoot if you could find one that would fit. I bought a cherry bomb muffler from JEG they sell all hot stuff for hotrod cars. I put it on my Trike but it was so loud the sound waves bounced off parked cars(HAHA). I still have it. Alleyoop
