Seems like a useless part. Id rather drain my oil into a coffee filter if the only reason is to look at it to see if there are any shavings in there. Besides the coffee filter would do a better job.
So what if anything does it do for a running engine? Id rather eliminate the spring and filter all together. Better yet, just use the plug on the other side to drain it.

It could be worse. I had to remove the side of the motor on the '73 Honda CL360 to clean the filter screen. Yes that's oil on the ground. I can't wait to find out more about these scooters. HA!

Two wheeler I think they put that screen on so when you drain the oil you can see if there is a major metal issue with your engine that's it. It would also catch like rv sealant if you put to much on when putting the engine together.

Other than that not really sure why they have a oil screen. You must put a lot of miles on your scooter a week.

That "Screen" is your oil filter. It blocks crap from banging up your engine. After I broke my valve springs I found chunks of hardened steel spring material that had wedged in the engine after and during the blowup. They were stopped in their tracks from doing who knows what kind of damage by that "Screen". No speeches about how I should have flushed out the engine, I did. If not for the screen I'd be on my second engine by now.

Actually if you look at the oil flow diagram for a GY6, the oil is pumped into the chamber formed by the plug, spring and screen and back up into the sump. That's why you find trapped bits in the cap when you pull it out. I found bits of spring, gasket and some sludge or other foreign material in the plug. In old times Brit bikes that were dry sump had a screen in the oil tank that had to be cleaned at each oil change.

Yes. It's quite handy to have the 50cc GY6 manual. Everything is even relevant to the 150 except the valve clearances. You can also see that the screen is not a vestigial organ. Contrary to public opinion I don't just make things up as I go along. Unless it's a repair on my own stuff.

I've been asked in several forums why I join without actually owning one of the models discussed. This discussion is a very good example of why I've joined this group. I have an interest in getting a scooter but have no direct experience with the modern ones. I would rather learn some about them before making a commitment and I like how everyone here is willing to share there wisdom.
