Today I was out on my Honda lawn tractor contemplating the Scooter World when it hit me like Saul on the road to Damascus. You know what bugs me about this “Cheap China Scooter” (CCS) as junk business? I could ride anything I want. I can afford what ever I want, within reason (No MV Agustas in my future). I choose to ride a Chinese scooter. I don’t have to ride a Chinese scooter, I choose to. If I didn’t, I’d buy a bike. I owned a Honda Big Ruckus for a year. Let me tell you. It did nothing better than my CF Moto Fashion. Same speed, same ride, same stopping power and many of the same strange habits. The Fashion is a Honda clone. I can feel the family resemblance.
These people who so freely come to the web and heap insults on Chinese scooters wouldn’t dare open their mouths at Harley, BMW, Triumph, Ducati or Moto Guzzi owners for their choice. I think it’s both arrogant and self-righteous to sit in judgement of my choice and that’s why I get steamed at it.
OK, yes, I’ve made some comments at the expense of the high priced scooter world. I stand by them. Scooters are all low performance, utilitarian machines that shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Vespa Primavera 150s cost the same as a Ninja 300. Kawasaki doesn’t sell any more of them than Piaggio sells 150s so volume isn’t even a slight issue. 150cc for five grand-foolishness. Worse is a 300cc Vespa for seven grand. Insanity.
I’ve chosen vehicles for utility, enjoyment and gas savings. My manhood or intellect isn’t any smaller because I’m riding an inexpensive scooter. If manhood was an issue I would go back to 1000cc bikes. One hundred horses is a real test of it
I choose to ride a Chinese scooter. It’s my choice. Got it?

Trust me I think the high prices for the Italian stuff is insanity also,,, and parts over the counter at the dealer is just as nuts,,,,,over $500 out the door for the replacement carb for the et,,,, crazy talk,,, Sudco is setting me up with a carb 4-5 times better for LESS than half the cost,,, altho I havent had an MV I've had my share of the high priced spread ,,, you ain't missin nothing

Honda tractor? My misses is gone to California with her daughter that just gave birth to a healthy baby boy and she does 90% of the mowing, I do the weed eating. Now we have a very good 42" Husky and with mowing 5 acres my wife took all day to do it with that mower. Not any more! ,




This is one bad machine! still American made and this dang thing will mow at an incredible pace of 8 mph! 23hp Kawasaki, fan cooled independent drives and what's most impressive of all is the deck and bearing system on this machine. The decks are not a thin as paper pressed out deck but rather hand fabricated using 1/4" thick plate metal!

Bought the extra warranty and for the next 7 years if something happens it's not my problem. Now if you want to know the mowing difference? I have never used a zero turn but with rain moving in I stopped from gardening and fired this baby up and I mowed at least 3/4 of the 5 acres I own in 2 hours! Repeat 2 hours!

Another cool thing, it's cheaper to run! Using my Husky I used at least $25 worth of gas every time, filling up the tank to mow the whole yard 3 to 4 times, I haven't even used 1/4 of the tank on this thing and I can finish the yard tomorrow in a hour at the most!

This is a badddddd mower!

I bought a John Deere 20 years ago so I wouldn't have to worry about repairs. The mower deck bearings were replaced five times! Then the battery blew up under my arse one day and I decided to move off of Logan Martin Lake and get rid of the lawn. I can cut my present lawn with a pair of scissors... . So much for American made mowers.

John Deere? = plastic junk now. Gravely? = Royal Royce of mowers, just like another icon that stays around since the early 1900's and will still be here when your battery blowing up journey ends!

Man how many batteries have blown up on you in your lifetime! Somebody is telling you something!

Did I mention that I mowed 3 acres in 2 hours?

The one good thing about the Honda is it has a water cooled V-Twin so it's quiet and lets you think. We bought it with the house. My other tractor is noisy and crude and makes me keep my mind on the job. Yes, of course I have two. I'm that kind of a guy. "Hmmm, what scooter should I use today?"....."Hmmm, what lawn tractor should I use today."

I've got 3 mowers, a old 1988 craftsman that I only use to pull my wagon/carts around with tools etc. to work around my place with, it keeps these worn out legs from walking this huge lawn. I have lots of trees and flower beds, gardens, fruit orchard so I'm always working on something in the yard in the warm weather. She uses a little oil but at 26 years old you would expect that, don't mow with her at all.

I'm keeping the 17hp Husquvarna, it's now 4 years old, runs great, mows great, just was working it to death and again it isn't half as fast as my new gravely and I have some very steep ditches and tight spots around trees that my Gravley is too wide for and it mows the steep ditches with the comfort that you are not going to turn over so she'll stay in use but now I expect it to be running just like the old craftsman for years because I won't wear it out mowing so much with it. It's loud but not unbearable.

My Gravely is not loud though, bigger tires and a nice seat make it a lot more comfortable to ride I can tell you for sure and the seat adjusts well for different riders but the best part of all is my whole yard can be done in less than 4 hours!

What's wrong with Walmart mowers? I have one and it works fine.

Nothing wrong with Walmart mowers. Jack and I are experiencing the hazards of owning acres of property. Excess quantities of lawn tractors, pull wagons, push mowers, leaf blowers, weed wackers, rakes, shovels, post hole diggers, chain saws, bow saws, generators... the list is endless.

Buddy that's a mouth full and add 16ft power limb saws, and so many air/electric power tools that would put any place that sells them to shame. Heck I got so much stuff I can't remember what all I do have!

Back to the original topic: Yup, it is a personal choice. I have a friend that rides a 900cc Triumph Thruxton. Looked at me one time when I rode up on my 250cc roketa and said that he would never ride a scooter. Not just a chinese scooter, no kind of scooter. ever. Guess it wouldn't make him feel manly. But I respect his choice. I never ever park next to him with my FJ1200 sport cruiser and point out that mine is bigger than his, and much, much faster, though when his developed a small oil leak the second week he had it, I had to mention that it was what you could expect from an English bike. No matter what you ride, someone won't like it. As long as you like it, be happy and ride.. I was asked one time while riding my chinese monkey bike 50cc clone (skygo) if I came from "circus folk". I though that might have been unnecessarily cruel..
