I am open to riding just about anything. I never wanted a harley or rode one but at this point some one asked me if I wanted to take one out to try it they wouldn't have to ask twice. Don't know if I could handle straight pipes for an hour but I would try it.
The most fun I ever had was riding a crotch rocket. Its mighty enjoyable to tour on a decent bike made for touring such as a goldwing. Trying to navigate alleys and narrow roads with a wing or long wheel base bike is trying, Riding a dirt bike out in the wilderness is fun. Every different bike has it plus's and every rider has restraints on what he is comfortable spending for his bike. I have been riding since 1958 when I turned 16 and haven't rode every thing yet. My choice in a ride lies some where between what I can spend and what I am willing to do to maintain it. The majesty was a real disappointment, spent more than I should have and ended up with a whole lot more work than had I bought chinese. john

answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090225074510AAZhC12Kawasaki also has a small engine manufacturing plant in Maryville, Missouri where they build engines for lawnmowers, garden tractors and so on. Yes Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycles, as well as other Kawasaki models are made in America. Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp, U.S.A. assemble Kawasaki motorcycles and manufacture some of the parts right here in America. No Rich. I just wanted to point out that you and Jack are blood brothers.

KZ...I too, ride a Chinese Scooter because I want to, not because I have to. And, as you, I can afford to ride what I want....Don't let the scooter snobs get to ya...not good for your blood pressure, or overall well being....Bob "My scooter's stable mate"

Boy! I came to this board to learn about scooters, mainly the lesser brands. I never thought, now being a renter again, that it would include a study in lawn mowers.

Beautiful Beemer there bud. Are they still making the C? I don't see them around anymore. The last time I bought a cruiser I was torn between your bike and a Vulcan. The Kawi dealer made me an offer I just could not refuse. The Beemer dealer just stared at me. Still....pretty bike. I had an 800 and 1000 Beemer at one time or another. Rich

The Kawi dealer made me an offer I just could not refuse. The Beemer dealer just stared at me. Still....pretty bike. I had an 800 and 1000 Beemer at one time or another. Rich No Rich, not made anymore, only produced from 97 thru 04. If anyone was looking to find one, I would suggest a website called Chromeheads.org, works a lot like this one (tech help, classifieds, etc, etc)... Picked this one up last May 15th, with just 5,771 miles on it....and get this....for less than the cost of a new Vespa 150. I really wondered if the miles were right, or if someone had fiddled with the odometer, but at 7,100 miles, I found a small nail in the rear tire to be the cause of a slow leak that had been bothering me. Upon further inspection, I discovered that both front and rear tires (neither of which were near being worn out), had manufacture dates of the third month of 1998. Needless to say, both were replaced with new Pirelli's. I no longer wonder about the odometer. Beemers are hard to get out of your system...I bought a new R60/5 in 1973...rode it for years, then sold it. Once you've had one, sooner or later, the bug bites ya again, and you have to have another one. This AM, the beemer stayed home while the scoot and I rode 28 miles to get a McDonald's coffee and a Mother's Day card...and oh yeah, a gallon of non ethanol gas. So far this spring, I've put twice as many miles on the scoot as I have on the cruiser....Bob

Kz I am not attacking you on owning a Chinese scooter. Not really sure who is agrivating you but for me I am happy you like Chinese scooters. They sound like they have been great to you and that is wonder full. I really surprised how many miles you have put on them. But after reashearching scooters in general a lot of people get the miles up on them. My scoot has been great to me so far I have put 2100 miles on in less than a year now. I met a lady who had one just like mine parked on the side of the road it had 7500 miles.
I asked her how it has been to here she said she got it with 1800 miles and the only things she has had to do to it was put tires on it oil changes and brake. That's pretty good news in my opionion makes me think mine will last a wile.

It's everywhere. That article I posted from You Motorcycle was about the last straw. The "Child" who publishes it believes that being in the Motorcycle business for a whole two years makes him an expert. If he had just stuck to stating that Chinese scooters aren't as well built as Japanese, I might have bought his argument. Instead he launched into an attack on all of them as cheap, dangerous and unworthy of consideration. Not just crate scooters but all Chinese brands, even the ones with a dealer network. He drew upon all the old information he could muster. What burned me most was his use of an old Phil Walters depiction of a scooter like mine as an example of trash. Phil was wrong then, Phil is wrong now.
If I needed a scooter to ride every day to commute, Oh Say, 80 miles round trip. I would buy something from Taiwan, Korea or Japan. Actually I'd buy a bike but that's another argument. I don't need that capability anymore. I sold a good Japanese bike that I really wasn't using. My commute now is about 35 miles round trip a few days a week. Do I need a $3500 Honda PCX-No. Do I even need a $2500 Kymco Super 8. Not hardly. I seem to be able to get by with a scooter that cost me $1200 in the case of my 150cc.
If you ride these things within their limits, and Wide Freaking Open is not a limit-it's an extreme, they will last. I don't have the opportunity to ride 10,000 miles a year anymore but give me time and I'll stack a few miles on my Chinese fleet and achieve it without all the rebuilds and repairs that the naysayers say I'll need.
My 150cc still has the same tire valves, same gas and vacuum lines and same front tire it came out of the crate with nearly six years later. Only the back tire and cylinder head are not original.
I could have stuck with my Kawasaki W650, I chose a Chinese scooter.
