So when I was adjusting my valves the other day, I noticed something that I had never noticed before on my engine..an EGR port! Does every scooter have an EGR port but just doesn't use it, or should I find a way to block off the EGR port? Nothing is connected to it at this time.

Riders mistakenly call the PAIR system an EGR. EGR is exhaust gas recycling and scooters generally do not have this system. An EGR runs exhaust back through the engine to burn off unspent fuel. Scooters usually have a PAIR which is pulsed air injection reburn. This pulls air into the exhaust to burn off unspent fuel. Now, I doubt you have an uncovered PAIR port because it would be REALLY noisy. But I agree with John, I'd like to see a pic of what you're talking about. If the port is uncovered you could damage your engine as cold air got up to the exhaust valve.

I'll take a photo later and post it here. It's the PAIR system, I know that for a fact. There IS a spot for it, and it looked uncovered. so I'll post the photo later to show everybody.

Hey, is this what you were talking about? I ran into this today.
If so it needs to be blocked off like this:

Yes, that's it. It wasn't covered with anything that I could see (I could see both screw holes and the hole in the center). It's not very loud, however. Does it still need to be corrected?

Well...yeah...I would. See, the exhaust valve isn't far from there. So when you shut the bike off cold air is pulled in as things cool. The cold hitting the hot can warp a valve. I don't think that happens as much as people say but I know that it CAN happen. Go to Lowes and buy a small piece of aluminum stock. Use a band saw, jig saw, or hack saw to cut it to size. Drill a couple holes where the bolts go, cut some exhaust gasket material from Auto Weinie, and bolt it on there. It will be quieter too. Rich

Does it still need to be corrected? it might be a head that has the hole there, but its not bored all the way thru to the exhaust passage in the head. you would be hearing it and there would have to be some soot around the hole if it was open. still I would plug the hole anyway
