I just brought my son's Chinese scooter to a local shop to have the valves adjusted before the weekend. They kindly also charged the battery and checked the charging system (for free) and informed us that work needs to be done on the charging system because it is only putting out 12.6 volts and the batter should be replaced. The battery is now reading 11.6 volts. It is a 50cc Chongqing Astronautic Bashan Motorcycle Manufacturing Co scooter. After the work was done at the shop I noticed on the ride home that the gas gauge, blinkers, horn, tail light, brake light and dash lights don't work anymore. There wasn't time to bring the scooter back before they closed. We haven't used the starter in a few years so we aren't sure if what the shop did affected that system. Also, the headlight does work just fine when the scooter is running as well as the high beam indicator. We plan to bring it back but we were hoping to fix it ourselves so we could ride it this holiday weekend. We checked to see if there was some simple wire that they forgot to connect back up but couldn't find any. What we found was that a wire with an in-line fuse is connected to the negative side of the battery. Could that be the problem? It seems that in all the wiring diagrams I've found on the web for Chinese scooters have the fuse connected to the positive side of the battery not the negative. The fuse is not blown and that wire with the fuse in it has continuity all the way to the ignition switch. I hesitate to switch it from the negative side to the positive side of the battery until I can confirm this with the proper wiring diagram but it seems like this could be the problem. My fear is this is some new way of wiring a scooter that this manufacturer did in 2010. Any advice?
