Okay I just took the seat off. And it looks like this ( if i were to be straddling the bike backwards and looking down) I'm looking for the CDI because it has been suggested that something may be loose or disconnected on it. The scooter will start but when I try to accelerate to move it, it will cut out. I looked around and I can't find the CDI or where the spark plug is I did however notice 2 things not connected: Bottom left of the main pic the little white thing with with the green wire coming out of it: Close Up: So maybe it is supposed to go to the ac ignition and kill switch (as per the diagram that was posted towards the top of this thread page above) What I am holding has a green wire coming out of it and it leads to the enricher / auto choke ( which I by the way thought the spark plug was in there but I learned from a video that is not where it is) The other thing not connected is a tube that looks like its coming from the bottom of the carb: Center of the photo seeing how its just sitting there not hooked up to anything. I looked around to see what these 2 things could / should be hooked to but I found nothing. Any ideas if these two things should be hooked up to something and if so what? Also any idea where the CDI box or spark plug may be? LOL. Not sure if you can tell by the main picture I took. At least I figured out where the carb is YAY! LOL. And one more pick just showing a little further back towards the arse end of the scooter. Working against a shadow there not sure if that little bit more of viewing will mean anything. I can take more pics if need be. I know where the valves are so I'm going to go check them for now.

I bought a new 2010 Chinese scooter last Sept & it lasted until July 1st of this year ( 10 months ) It was done at about 2,500 miles. It would have cost more to fix it than I wanted to deal with. I really ran it into the ground and made some mistakes with it so I just sold it to a mechanic to mess with and resell. I bought another new scooter of the same kind but the 2011 model and this time I am taking very good care of it and I am learning to maintain it myself. The only thing is, the screws / bolts are so cheap that they are already stripping with one touch & I'm being careful, using the proper tools etc. I am wondering if I should do the maintenance every " time and a half " meaning like if I should do something every 1,000 miles, do it every 1,500 miles instead to save the screw/bolt heads a little for the ones that are stripping. Obviously I will keep up on the oil changes. Here is the question though.. how long SHOULD one of these cheap Chinese scooters last if you baby it and provide the proper maintenance? I figured if you buy a new, cheap $10,000 car you should get about 10 yrs out of it with babying it and proper maintenance. Does this mean that a new, cheap $1,000 scooter should get you about 1 yr out of it? Would you use the same mentality that I'm using here ? After the last one I think I will be happy to get 1 to 1.5 yrs out of this one. Actually its a $750 scooter but with tax, registration and title in this wonderful auto-expensive state of FL, the fees I have to pay make it come to $1,000 at the dealership when I buy a new scooter. Also, has anyone had major problems with bolt and screw heads stripping on cheap scooters? How hard is it to take the screw to a hardware store and find the exact match? I've never had to so I don't know if its possible to match something up just by looking at it

Thanks! Yes, come point it out! J/K. Good Lord I hope I don't have to take apart the spot by the headlights, it looks like a pain to get apart I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out by your description Hopefully by the end of tomorrow my scooter will be in great shape.... and hopefully I will be able to fit a socket wrench in the places I need to w/o having to buy an extender thinger a bobber

I'll have to check it in the morning, the street lights aren't going to cut it I've got to open up my scooter to check the spark, carb, valves and CDI in the morning anyway. Where is the CDI in there? It just looks like a box w/ some different colored wires coming out of it right?

Alleyoop, after the first time I over filled it a little and it bogged after I've been careful not to but I did fill it right up to the limit (not over) Should I leave the cap off for the night and some will evaporate or are you saying try to start it like that? I know with a car if you start it w the cap off the check engine light will come on Hehe.

Sunlproblems - I just checked the oil ( and thanks for the reminder about putting it on center stand because I prob would have forgot to ) If I just touch the threads ( don't screw it in at all) the oil comes up to about 90% of where it should be on the dip stick. If i screw it in half way it comes up to about 95% of where it should be on the dip stick. If I screw it in all the way it comes up to 100% of where it should be on the dipstick. Sorry, I'm exact and you said to check with the dipstick just touching the threads Hehehe. So the oil seems good

I just changed the oil about a week ago, but I shall check. Thanks! I also just ordered a 4 pack of spark plugs from Ebay. Is there any point in even trying to clean a spark plug when they are $3 new? I'm sure I will need them as I'm trying to do all my own maintenance on my scooter. $30 for an oil change on a scoot that doesn't even take all full qt of oil or have to have a new filter put in is malarkey. No thank you to South Beach scooter repair place prices

Okay I googled CDI and it looks like a box with some rainbow wires coming out of it. Where do I find this on the scooter to see if its all plugged in tight?

Ya it hot here but it wasn't bad, this happened a little while ago after the sun set.
My manual says at 186miles I'm supposed to check the spark plug, clean the carb and change the gear oil so I planned on doing this pretty soon anyway ( nervous ) I'm a chick I'm not used to this stuff but I have a socket wrench set ready to go ( not sure if I need to buy an extender for the socket wrench) LOL. I already changed the engine oil at about 75mph because when I checked it it was low and I didn't want to mix 2 different kids of oil ( whatever crap they put in and the stuff I planned on using) So I will check the spark. What is the CDI? How do I know if the carb is getting gas? I guess that means when I unplug the line from the gas tank to the carb it will be dripping out as I'm trying to position it up and away from dripping on stuff while I'm cleaning the carb? LOL.
