I have a 1986 Honda Elite 150. Bought it off Craiglist in July 2015. 7000+ miles. Ran fine, but had a loud muffler and some other things, so I took it into the shop and they cleaned the carb, performed a once over and did some other minor adjustments. It ran fine.
A few weeks later, I have a dead scooter. Boyfriend suggested it might be a fuse since NOTHING was coming on when I tried to turn it on. $5 later, sure enough, it fires up after replacing the fuses under the front hood by the headlight.
A few weeks later, I have a dead scooter again. It sounds like it's going to start up, but won't. I thought I left the scoot in the ON position while I was swapping out the muffler, so I take the battery in and charge it overnight. Next day, it fires up fine and we're back in business.
A few days later, I have a dead scooter again again again again. Same symptoms: it sounds like it wants to start up, but won't turn over. I went out and bought a new battery and had a working scooter the next day. I think I'm finally getting ahead of this problem. I also replaced the MAIN fuse next to the scooter while I'm at it.
A few weeks later, you guessed it. Dead scooter. Sounds like it's going to start up, but won't. At this point, I'm not wanting to dump any more # into this thing and am resolved to let it sit until spring.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm starting to think it wasn't the battery these last few times and I'm dealing with a different issue here (which stinks, since I went out and bought a new battery). If anyone has any ideas of things I can check/try to fix myself, I'd love to hear them. I'm starting to regret this scooter purchase!

Got the muffler yesterday. It's a heavy beast! I had to spend some time picking packing peanuts out of it since the seller didn't wrap it up before it put it in the box with the peanuts. LOL
It looks like the muffler might just bolt on (thought it had to be welded on) - does anyone know?

I am not overly mechanical, so it didn't even occur to me it could be a fuse.
There was one time my scoot wouldn't start and I sat there for a minute, panicking, before I realized the kill/run switch was set to OFF.

It was a fuse! I never would have guessed it was that easy!

Got it two weeks ago. It's been running fine. Took it to the shop for a once over. They cleaned the carb, changed the gas, changed the filter, checked the coolant, etc. Had it out about 3-4 times since then and all is well. Coming home from a friend's house tonight and the turn signals stop working, but everything else is fine. Get home and turn it off and now it won't start. If I turn it on, the lights come on, but it won't turn over. There is nothing when I press the start button.
Any ideas? They told me the battery was somewhat new, but that was a few years ago.

Will do. No rush on the headlight motor - at least the light's on!

I have a 1986 Honda Elite 150 Deluxe. Bought used off of Craigslist in July. I just got it back from the shop (for a tune-up and once over) and two of the issues could not be fixed due to the parts not being available: the muffler and the motor for the pop-up headlight.
The headlight itself works, but the motor which pops it up and down is seized and non-functional.
The muffler has a loose baffle and is horribly loud at speeds over 30mph.
Shop tells me to check eBay for the parts since they don't make parts for this scooter anymore. Is that my only option here? I myself am not mechanically inclined, so there's no way I can fix something like this on my own.
Both issues are not keeping me from driving the scoot, but I'd really like to get the muffler issue fixed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
