I just cleaned the carb (it all looked clean, but cleaned it anyway) and still no joy, so did what you said, disconnected the fuel pipe to the carb and tried starting the bike and no fuel came through, what should I do now?

Thank you! I shall take some pictures tomorrow of the carb area
One thing I have noticed, I went to change the oil, but couldnt as I have somehow lost the socket that fits under the engine, so just checked the dip stick and rather than being the red colour the oil usually is, it looked dirty and dark, I topped it up probably six weeks ago....would the old oil have any impact on it starting? I will change it as soon as I can...
But for now I will just try what you said about cranking the engine and seeing if any fuel comes out into a cup...

Hi guys and thanks for all the replies, so here are things I have done so far -
Drained off the old fuel and put in new Changed the spark plug and checked for spark (there definitely was a spark) Fully charged the battery
I opened up under the seat and looked at the carb but not taken it off as I don't really feel confident with it...
You mentioned starting fuel, how does that work? Where do you put it?
So frustrating because I will have to just leave it if I cannot get it going :-(
It did just go all of a sudden, yesterday it fired up idled for about three seconds then cut out, its doing my head in!

If that doesn't do the trick you could try making sure the jets aren't clogged. I think I'll have to take the carb out, and clean it all, a bit scared as never done it...any tips?

Thank you, I figured maybe it is bad fuel, as it had been pouring with rain so some might have got into the tank, so if I drain it off from underneath, will it be ok just putting new fuel in? or do I need to clean the tank out ?

I had a scooter stolen that was chained to a railing, in front of a very modern CCTV camera, in broad daylight, on a busy car park, they just walked up with massive bolt cutters, cut the chain off, broke the steering lock and wheeled it off, I was only in the swimming baths for 20 minutes!
What really sucked was the CCTV clearly captured these people on camera and the police didnt even bother following it up....

Hi guys, I have for the past year had what was the most reliable and best running scooter I have had in a long time, worked like a dream, however I had to move house and it went from being kept in a garage, to being kept outside, and after having an operation it was stood untouched for two weeks....now it wont fire up
The bike is a lexmoto tornado 49cc, it is 1 year old, aside from having to change a front light it has not needed any other work except a tyre change...
I have got it to start and it idles for a bit then dies, but if I even try and turn the throttle it cuts out completely.
I have charged the battery for a long time, though this is the original battery, I have put a new spark plug in...
I have no money to pay for it to go into a garage, and in fact live miles from one anyway,
I'm really keen to learn how to fix it, in the past i have done things like change bearings, fixed lights etc, so my knowledge is pretty basic..
How can a good running bike just suddenly go so wrong
Thank you for any help, I really do appreciate it!
