2007 chongqing baja sf50 - 50cc gy6
i would like to get rid of the box filter the mounts are broken and it just bangs around.
how hard would it be to modify it with the existing foam filter into a smaller filter.
I dont plan on re jetting just yet, just want to reduce the size of the filter without making the engine run too rich or lean.
I'm assuming it would be trial and error but wasn't sure if anyone had already done it.

I'm at 003 and 004 now. waiting to ride it and see how it does. i was previously 004 005
I like that idea of setting gap. i may redo it that way. thanks

Well, I adjusted the valves again. I'm hoping that may have fixed the situation.
Won't be able to ride for a bit because of rain.

thats what i was thinking. "heat expansion".
It only does it if i run it hard (full throttle) on longer rides. i never run full throttle for long, just on certain rds.
I cant see where it could be heat related, because my commute to work is 3 miles with some full throttle and it doesnt do
it at all.
I will check the plug though, never thought of that.

50cc gy6 Chinese scooter.
It starts ticking fairly loud but only after it warms up.
I've adjusted the valves but this didnt seem to be the issue unless scooter valves become noisier as the engine heats up.
Just seems odd that it only does it after its warm.
I'm learning as I go so any ideas will be helpful, especially in the transmission area. I've yet to mess with this area.

Thanks for the input, very helpful. I think I will leave it alone for now. My biggest concern right now is getting the oil changed. I can run about 35-40 top end but it seems a bit abusive mechanically. If I can just run about 30 (speed limit) I'm comfortable.

I have a standard Chinese 50cc GY6 and was wondering what size slider weights would work best. Will I need different springs? I weigh about 190 If its best that I leave it alone then by all means please let me know. Im content with what I have now but have read that I can increase my take off speeds and not affect top end speeds. Or even gain. Thanks, Tim  |
