I would verify that the previous owner did not change/update the stator. It is possible that there are a different number of stator coils than were on the original machine. If this is true, then it could explain extra wires and adaptions made for the CDI. It could develop too much current for charging the battery too. It's worth the time to pull of the rotor/flywheel and see what you find. gerre
