The same thing happend to me a few weeks ago. I opened the front of the scooter enclosing the speedometer and found the machine screw holding the wire to the fuel gauge had rettled loose and when the way of road dust. I replaced the screw and am happy reporting actual fuel levels. Hope this helps.
