im going to put a relay in insted of the diode, need to know why i only have 6 volts coming right out of the regulator ,red wire reg side,with the red wire out of the coupler and coupler pluged in has a new regulator regulator on it

i have 26 ac volts at stator yellow wires at idle and about 85 to90 ac volts at 5000 rpm . with everything diconnected except regulator if i take the red wire out of the regulator side of the coupler and pluged couple in then put volt meter on the red wire and green to ground of the tester shouldnt i get about 13 or 14 dc volts?
i get only like 6 Help Plz
