This morning, as I'm trying to start my scooter (with a cold engine) it became... possessed.
The (obviously) final try, I mash the starter button until it turns over. However, when I let go the starter continued to fire. I played with the starter button a few times, hoping it was stuck, but to no avail.
I turned the key off and pulled it out, and the starter continued to fire. At a loss, I opened up the seat, grabbed the screwdriver I keep there and pulled the battery cable.
Just to test, I waited a moment and touched the wire back to the battery terminal, and the starter turned again!
I had a problem a week ago where the solder that held the wire to the starter button fell off. I re-soldered it, and it has been working fine since then, so I'm not certain that's the problem.
Any ideas?
It did get wet about two days ago... could a short somewhere be causing this?

It didn't crank: but I know it was the solder, I already found the break on the wire connecting the starter button.
I bought it from another guy, who did a kinda sorta halfway PDI. I'm in the process of doing my own.
It's an MC-62 (I said 54 on an earlier post) with the Linhai engine.

After a few fun-filled days of riding my new scooter, all of a sudden it would no longer start.
After some searching, I found wire that had broken from its solder on the starter button.
My question is: is this common? Should I completely disassemble and search for weak welds? Taking the body kit off is a PITA.

I had a different cause for a similar need. My speedometer is very inaccurate, so I decided to use a speedometer app on my phone (could be used for gps, just as easily).
I just used an old belt clip for my phone that I had laying around, secured to the left side handlebar just above the controls with a zip tie. If the zip tie were black instead of blue, it would look like it was made to be there. And when I park I can simply remove the phone from the clip.
It's probably not the safest (the belt clip is hooked on to the brake line, with the zip tie securing it, but I honestly don't see a problem with it) but it works extremely well.
And come to find out, my speedometer is a consistent 12-14 mph off!
EDIT: Let me know what you find about adding a 12v outlet or a usb outlet (12v more versatile, I would think). Having the gps running on my phone sucks it dry in just a few hours.

Hello!
I'm brand new to the scooter world, yet I've done quite a bit of research on this website (very helpful!)
I just bought a 2008 Roketa MC-54B from a guy that I work with, for $500 (has just over 600 miles). He had a lot of problems with it from day one, and honestly he never had the patience to tweak the little things that need to be tweaked (and his wife hated it).
From what I can tell, his only problem was starting it up. I gave him rides to pick it up from the mechanic, and the mechanic always said that there was nothing wrong with it, you just have to have patience.
It can be tricky to start, but I think I'm going to try adjusting the idle (it's a bit low, I believe) and perhaps adjusting the intake and exhaust valves. For example, this morning I started it up first try with no problems. Went in the house to let it warm up for a minute and when I returned it had died and wouldn't start again. I went to work, returned home, and it started fine (I took it for my first long trip this afternoon, drove for about two hours. This thing is a blast!).
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm pretty handy with anything technical, although I've never done anything with engines. I hope you guys don't mind, but I intend to you use you for lots of help!
