Today my new tire arrived and I took off an hour from work to take it to the place and have them put it on, hoping that it'd be ready when I got off just to go pick up. Well that was not to be the case.
I had to wait over an hour to get the tire mounted and was the last thing the shop did and I left right at 6. I decided since Jen has to work late that I'd just stop by KFC and get some supper. Then I was driving right past the auction I go to sometimes so I stopped in (but didn't see anything worth bidding on.) On my way through Liberty, the guy in front of my truck stops abruptly so I do too. Problem is that the gal behind me did NOT stop. Well, not until she hit the back end of the truck..... twice. Dunno how she hit me twice, but she did. Not a lot of damage. Bumper is bent, license plate lights are broken. Her car was more torn up than my truck. Called the police but they wouldn't come out because it's a non injury wreck with drivable cars. I guess I get to call her insurance tomorrow and stake my claim!

I have family in Joplin. Their house was a total loss. 3 of 5 injured. No life threatening injuries, but my uncle is still pretty rough shape. I certainly wasn't trying to make light of the devastation in Joplin, It had just not occurred to me that the tornado problems would have any effect on U Haul rental. I hope your uncle recovers quickly.

Finally made it home safe and sound.
Apparently, there was a tornado in a town 18 miles north of Neosho called Joplin recently. I think there was some news coverage. (tongue in cheek) It appears that U Haul trucks in the Neosho area are few and far between. As in none. We ended up walking to a car dealership and asked if there were any car rental places around and as luck would have it Enterprise rent a car was right next door. We rented a car, drove from Neosho to KC, got my truck, drove BOTH vehicles back, Returned the rental, loaded up the scooter and just got home and got it unloaded.
Man what a couple of days.

Rode from KC down to Eureka Springs, AR yesterday. Working on rides for the STO. Almost done and 1 more road to check and hit a rock. Blew out my back tire about 2 miles from Seligman, MO. A lady took us up to the gas station where we got some fix a flat.
Now you're probably thinking that we fixed our flat and headed home. Well you'd be wrong. Hole was too big. Limped back up the 2 miles and got some of those worm plugs. The combination of the two got me about 10 miles down the road where I used the rest of my 2nd can of fix a flat and THAT got me to Cassville and wal mart tire center.
As luck would have it, Wal Mart has a company policy against their tire centers from working on motorcycle tires. Receiving no help, I purchased more worm plugs and slime as well as a 12V tire inflator. Still couldn't get it fixed but by putting about 5 plugs in the hole as well as the slime and THAT got me fixed up good enough to run about 10 miles at a strech. Sit and re-air the tire.
Well that set up got me about 3 miles from Neosho where I had to give up and walk to a motel where I sit as I type. Plan is to get a U Haul in the morning when they roll the streets back out and haul it back to KC.
Single weirdest day I've had in a while, but like they say, "$h!t happens."

Most of you know that I'm involved with the STO and go to Eureka Springs frequently. I found some land up there and bought it. It's out in the middle of the woods 3 miles down a gravel road, but it's GORGEOUS! It's all trees right now with a creek running through it. There are some pictures of some of the adjacent lots' buildings but my lot does not have any as of yet. Gonna clear out a place to set up a camp in the near future and will be staying out there for the rally this year. Look at all the natural beauty I will soon get to enjoy on a regular basis: s496.photobucket.com/albums/rr321/Smorkle1/Land/?albumview=slideshow

I haven't driven my truck now in over a week. It's been chilly starts to the days this week, but riding the scoot in to work has been really nice. Usually I have to go to multiple buildings to work and carry tools and equipment with me, but been camped out at the same place for a week and really happy to be able to ride, ride, ride.

I have a Coleman gas powered generator that I bought about 10 years ago that hasn't been started up in AT LEAST 5 years. I pulled it out today, cleaned it off, refilled the oil and gas, changed the spark plug and that sucker started on the first pull! I was surprised to say the least.
It sounds as if it's missing a little though. Anybody know anything about Tecumseh 5HP motors? or a good reference forum/site?

Today the girlfriend and I decided to take a ride. We've been planning on adding more states to our list so we looked up the closest point in Nebraska to us and discovered a little town called Rulo. There's nothing much there except a bar&grille and a historical marker, but it *IS* in Nebraska so that became our destination. It was a sunny day but the upper 60's temperature was a tad chilly for an all day ride, but not unbearable. I mapped out the ride on Google maps and found some back roads to take. Unknown to us, one of the roads I chose was Hwy T and while it DID go through, it was not paved the entire length of the way. Also, there was a T in the road and we turned the wrong way, thereby leading us to a different highway, RA. That highway took us back up to I 29 where we found a cool little store. This store we found was such an interesting place. It has everything: fireworks, liquor, convenience items, hunting supplies, camping supplies, and of course, antiques. If they ain't got it, you don't need it. Here is a pic of the inside of the place: After the store we rode through Oregon, MO and then on up to Rulo, NE where I took these three pics. In all three pics the scooter is sitting in the same spot and only I moved. After all of this we rode back taking some differing back roads (and one not so back road) to Cameron, MO where we had a great dinner at Ma & Pa's Kettle Restaurant. They have some good down home food there and you should stop in if you're in the area. All in all we had a great day riding and hopefully we'll get to take more trips to more states very soon!

I think if you respond here you should have to show a link to mapquest showing where the town is. I laughed for hours when I came across Blue Ball, AR mapq.st/h86HTvAnd one time I got hooked up with some people from Gas, Kansas. mapq.st/eHeUERThe question I have is why does almost every state in the union have a Clinton, but there are only 10 Hollywoods?

As ride coordinator I feel it is my obligation to come to Eureka Springs a few times before the rally and work out rides that I'm planning. This is one of those weekends.
I decided to stay at the host hotel for my pre-visit. I will have to agree that Comfort Inn is a much nicer place than where we've been the last 2 years. I just checked in and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room is pretty good. All of the area is clean. The wall paper and the carpet is a little dated but not atrocious. The painted areas of the room look to have been freshly painted and the window coverings and linens are new and nice looking. The heat works very well (It is March, after all) and there is free wifi internet, which is easy to access.
I had the continental breakfast this morning and it was pretty good. There was a guy down there serving quiche and then there was do-it-yourself waffles and other goodies. I had waffles and boiled eggs and Jen had the quiche. Both were really good. They have Orange, apple and grape juice, enhanced water (whatever that means) and milk as well as coffee.
All in all this looks like a good place for our rally and I'm glad Tim chose it.

I found a tool online that will make a map (like the one you see in my signature) that shows where I've ridden. I just thought I'd share. www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/Save the image and add it to your profile if you like. Enjoy!
