Ok well we got the exhaust and variator restrictors out and are now able to reach 36 mph. Low end acceleration is much improved too.
I broke a screwdriver trying to pry the funnel out of the exhaust so I took it to a welder/ trailer hitch installer. I gave the mechanic a six pack of beer and in 3 minutes the exhaust was opened!
Top speed after the variator washer was removed was around 32mph and after the exhaust restrictor was removed it jumped to 36.

Thanks for the help so far everybody. Does anyone have a picture of the restrictor in the downpipe of the exhaust that Rob mentioned? I googled it and found some photos of the downpipe AFTER the cone was removed but none with it. www.provoscooter.com/exhaust-derestrictionI'll be sure to take photos of everything I do and post them for future reference.

Sweet!
That's good to hear that the bike is running correctly per Yamaha, but that still sucks not being able to go past 30.
Anyone know why they restrict them? Emissions? Taxes? Mechanical problems?
Has anyone had any concerns/ issues/ tips after they've de-restricted their bike? Overheating, running lean, belts, weights, wear etc?

A gal I know has a Vino 50cc (4000 miles on it, last serviced at 3000 miles) and she can't get it past 30 mph. Bike starts great, idles great, decent tires. I figure with her weight she should be able to go faster.
Can any past/ current Vino owners tell me what kind of speeds they are getting? I want to know if it's just the way the bike is, or if there's something wrong with it.
It's been 2 years since I owned a 50cc scooter (Lance Charming 50), but I thought it averaged low 30's (170 lb rider).

Ok I adjusted the valves to .004" In and .005" Ex. Bike runs smoother. I had the owner ride it to make sure it felt the same. He's stoked and I'm glad everything worked out.
As far as pulling the valve cover out via the bottom of the scooter, the gas tank hung up things. What I did instead was pull all the vacuum hoses, ignition coil, and spark plug out of the way and eased the cover out the right side of the bike as best I could. I nicked the gasket on the underside of the valve cover a bit, but nothing too bad. Going in was a lot quicker and easier.
I still had to remove the plastic bottom skid plate/ floor cover so that I had room to work on the exhaust valves.

Yea Im going to go back tonight and re-adjust them. I'll try .004" and .005". On all the other bikes I've worked on getting the valve cover off was a piece of cake. The cover comes right off and away you go. I couldn't get the cover past the rocker arms or the gas tank so I had to loosen the plastic so I could bend it enough to slide the cover out. I ended up taking the seat off, underside floor cover, and loosened up all the plastic near the engine. It took me about 2 hours to get everything off and about 10 minutes to adjust the valves. F#&K! Anyone know how else to get the valve cover off easily? I'm not looking forward to it

I just adjusted the valves on my friends Fly Scooters Il Bello 150. I couldn't find any settings so I looked online. Eventually I came across something that said adjust to .004 (Didn't say inches or MM).
So, I dont know how or why, but I took that as .40MM (That converts to .016") and adjusted the valves to that. The bike started up great and ran just fine. I didn't hear any excessive tapping or else I would have been worried.
This morning though I was thinking about it and started looking into adjutsments. To my horror I see it should have been .004 INCHES.
So now, my question is should I go back and adjust them correct or will they tighten up? I've heard horror stories about tapping valves breaking, ruining engines etc. and I dont want that to happen to my friend. Those Il Bello style Chinese bikes are a pain to work on as the plastic body doesnt come off easily!
Please let me know what I should do ASAP as I'm leaving Monday for a work trip.

Ok I got the scooter working. It was a bad pulsar coil. I bought a new one and installed it and the scooter fired right up. On the new stator & pulsar coil I measured the resistance and voltage.
Key off:
Blue/ Yellow wire- resistance 111 ohms Yellow wire- .6 ohms White wire- .7ohms
Key on, scooter not turning over:
Blue/ Yellow-112 ohms Yellow- 7 ohms White wire- 6.8 ohms
Just turning over the engine: Blue/ Yellow wire- resistance .9 killi ohms, .23 volts Yellow wire- no continuity, 7 volts White wire- resistance 0 ohms, 9.1 volts
Engine running: Blue/ Yellow wire- resistance ohms, .76 volts Yellow wire- resistance ohms, 11.6 volts White wire- resistance ohms, 17.5 volts
Hope this helps someone save a lot of time when their trying to know if their stator/ pulsar coil is bad!

I only have four wires exiting the generator. Blue/ yellow, white, yellow, and green. It ran fine before with that. I colored a wiring diagram for it. -Blue/ yellow wire goes to the CDI & Key switch -White goes directly to the regulator/ rectifier -Yellow goes to the regulator/ rectifier & headlight - Green grounds out. No red wire anywhere. This engine is a KDU style. I was told its a twist on a GY6 engine Attachments:

Ok i'm just about to order a flywheel puller and new stator, but just want to check one last thing. If my stator is bad would it not produce any sparks? Or just one spark and then nothing?

Ok well thats re-assuring to hear. My Kymco is a KDU engine. The next step up from a GY6. Anyone know where I can get a cheap flywheel puller?

My Kymco Agility 125cc is having ignition problems and i'm running out of things to check. I tried changing the spark plug, changed ignition coil, changed the CDI, grounding the spark plug, checked the killswitch, looked for shorts in the ignition wiring, cleaned the flywheel magnet and pulsar coil head, AND still nothing.
I followed the diagnostics for no spark in the library section of the forum.
Can anyone compare these values to a working stator? I'm guessing its a bad stator but I wanted to check.
Blue & Yellow wire: .4 ohms resistance, produces .4v AC when turning over. White wire: .5 ohms resistance, produces 9V AC when turning over Yellow wire: .38 ohms resistance, produces 7 V AC when turning over.
