Hey guys I have a vespa GTS250ie , I had some noise from the cvt on light accel in traffic . Just enough to get you rolling . So I opened up the cvt yesterday . The belt and variator were not bad the clutch pads don't look bad . I cleaned everything up nice . I do not have a socket to remove the large clutch nut , get on that tomorrow . I noticed the clutch shaft has in and out play , I don't know if that is normal or if there is a bigger problem inside of the clutch and final drive gearing and bearings or shafts . If any of you guys know and can shed some light on this that would be great .
thanks John

Movement on either shaft including the crank is not good.

i would think that only a few thousands axial play is acceptable,,,like 4-5 anything more would mean the support bearings thrust face is wore beyond tolerance

Any movement of any sort isn't good especially on a clutch shaft or crankshaft. It may be time to check your bearings to make sure they are ok. Excessive wear on the crankshaft or clutch shaft or bearings can cause looseness. Checking for worn or loose gears wouldn't be a bad idea either. Just make sure you have gear oil and a spare gasket set handy. willc. smiley-alien011
