Any one out there have any experience with putting a side car, also called a hack, on a scooter? There are several companies that make them. I am considering a Steib unit for my TGB Delivery 150. Scooterparts.com has them available by special order. Does anyone have knowledge , positive or negative, from observations of friends who have side cars? I am just goofy enough to do it.

We knew about the goofy part. Do you think a 150cc would handle that? Or were you going to use your 50cc? Rich

Scooterparts offers them for Vespas, 150cc I think. they are used in Europe on 150ccs. They are not that heavy, would be like another passenger in weight. My TGB has 10.1 hp and can haul the freight, the Delivery is a scooter mans pick up truck!! For right now it is just an idea that i am playing with. They seem to be more popular in the Orient and Europe. It might run a little slow on my TGB Del. 50cc but if IB can offer a 50cc trike then weight wise it could be done, not that I would want to!!!

Those are some nice looking rigs. If I lived in a bit flatter country I would be real tempted, vespa and the whole bit. I have seen a few in the area around here but with all the hills a 150 would be real stressed to keep up with traffic. john

John, I live in the NGA foothills. I ride only on secondary roads (2 lane) and my TGB 150 cruises between 55-60 and handles the hill2 pretty well. However the weight of the hack might slow it down a bit. Still investigating the idea. They also offer a trike attachment that looks interesting.

ten years ago I was looking at a ural russian bmw copy with a side car. they were pretty cheap at the time. always wondered if my 130 lb dog would have liked riding in it. have since got a new 130lb dog and he will not get in the trailer behind my ford 8n tractor but loves riding in the back seat of the car. A 150 no matter what the brand or configuration is not a highway scooter, they might go a bit over 55 but don't have the umph to get up to speed and keep up with traffic. on lesser traveled roads they are fine but still running a scooter wide open is not a good idea. john

John, I agree concerning the use of 150's on expressways or roads of that type. Even a 250 would not be adequate for that. I did have a Piaggio MP3 500cc pass me the other day on the expressway. I was driving at 70 mph and he left me in the dust, must have been doing 80 or more(that is the reverse trike that Piaggio makes.) But for the driving on my roads the 150 holds its own, The Ural is still low priced but has a bad reputation for break downs, is best operated at 60-65, gets 30-33 mph, but still is interesting. What breed of dog do you have?

Great Pyrenees, great loyal pet but a lot of work to groom. fleas are real bad this year. so hot out he is only out an hour or so a day. sun almost down and still 95 degrees out. double coat and has to be brushed and combed till its gone......hours and hours of it

Great working dogs. I have been involved with show dogs for 49 years. Original breed was Borzoi & Italian Greyhounds. Was a Pro handler in the 70's & 80's. No longer showing but my wife judges. If you put a Great Pyrenees in a side car you would need a can opener to get him out but you would not have to worry about riding the hack as his weight would keep the rig on the ground!!
