Ok, I'm SO tired of the constant gotta fix this or that on my bike. So I'm going to build me a new one that meets my needs exactly. AND this one will be electric.
I found a way to keep batteries charged longer while they are being drained. So I should be able to get 300 to 400 miles from a single charge. And it will have solar built into it so that will extend it even further.
Here's the problem. What frame do I use? The back wheel on most scoots is mounted to the engine, not the frame. Am I going to have to build a swingarm for this thing? The motor will be chain driving the back wheel, not direct thru a CVT.

I'm looking at this motor system. It'll get me plenty of speed. Motor SystemI'd love to build this into a Burgman body or even an old Silverwing. Even a Roketa would be fine because I'm gutting it anyway. For my headlights, I found a Cree LED spotlight at Wally World for $30. Two of those would be more than enough light out the front. And using all LEDs for the side markers and turning signals, stop lights and anything else I might need will cut sown on the amount of power I need.

I already hear you out there.... "300-400 miles on a single charge? Not possible." Au contrare mon ami. The United States has a law that whenever you submit for a patent, you have to provide a working model to be tested. If it doesn't work, then you don't get the patent. Nicola Tesla had a number of patents which generated high voltage from what he called 'The ether'. We now know and understand what he had actually done was convert the ambient radiation that constantly surrounds us into useable electricity using a rectifier type device.
Without getting into all kinds of debates and technical stuff, let me just say that I've tested this and it works. I can rectify a constant 120v at 20 amps. More than enough to run a motor and keep the battery charged. Add solar to that and there is no reason to ever need gas again.
Ok, let the jocularity begin ye scoffers!

I could also make it out of an old cruiser frame. Electric Harley. Yeah baby. Hmmm... A silent Harley? I'll have to think about that one. But I love cruisers more than scoots. Just have a hard time shifting gears because of my nerve damage. Electric, no gears. Twist and Go. Sweet. Going to have to make a trip to the dead bike yard here soon....
I wonder how much a rolling frame costs?

You can get rolling chassis cheap,,,junk yard chassis need to be recerted for roadworthiness so be careful and check the laws in your state,,,5 of my cars were registered as reconstructions so i went thru all the bullpucky associated with this and it is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE LEFT NUT,,,buy a bike with a blown mill thats still registered,,,the only thing i see as an issue is the weight of the batteries,,,and get everything balanced ,,,and also you may want to look into a sprague clutch for the engine for when you chop the throttle at speed the engine will drag the rear tire and down you will go,,,the one way clutch can be set so you have as much or as little engine braking effect as you want,,,just a thought

Excellent advice cyborg. One reconstructed title was enough for me.

I was actually thinking of a freewheel instead of a regen. Regenerative braking doesn't do enough to really pay off unless you are going down a long steep hill. It's the black sheep of the electric vehicle industry. The benefits are minimal but everyone uses it because it sounds good and sells more vehicles.

oh i wasn't even thinking of regen,,i was thinking of inertia mass ,,,also the gear ratio of the final drive has to be considered,,,as you gear down for decent acceleration,,,when the power is cut the exact ratio is applied in reverse as the wheel that was driven is now the driver,,,so a 10 to 1 ratio will be 1 to 10,,,,it will drag that rear like an unwanted stepchild,,,ducati ran into big problems when the rider would chop the throttle going into turns the bike would drag the rear and spit the rider off,,,this is why they run sprague clutches,,,so it could be set to slip and not wad the bike or the rider,,,,be cautious and test test test,,,,

Oh and i hear you on the fix fix fix and more fixin guitar,,,,i've been screaming this since i got signed up for this chicken outfit,,i dont care what part of the globe the bike comes from there are problems and issues to be addressed, the best one i've seen so far lately is SYM ,,,i have a vespa and it has been a major pain,,,one thing after another,,,,the only thing that hasn't given me any grief are the mirrors i put on,,,,,i tell you what if i would have plopped down over $4000 for this thing i would be pissed,,i wouldn't be turning red,,,i'd be all colors of the rainbow with steam coming out of my ears,,,they would throw my money with interest back at me and be very happy to see me go,,,,

I was looking at a bicycle freewheel the other day. Just need to scale it up a bit. I was thinking of a 5 or 6 to 1 ratio on the drive sprockets. That will give me around 90mph with the engine I've chosen.

those are sprague clutches,,,,and the larger ones are adjustable so you can set it for any amount of engine braking,,,this is good,,,oh i was looking thru CL and the recycler and you can get honda cruiser chassis cheap,,,right up your alley

Never knew they had a name other than 'freewheel sprocket'. Cool. Learned something today.

OK! I'm getting ready to begin the gutting process on my Roketa 250. Going to rip out all the nasty ICE parts and put them on Craig's List. If they sell, awesome, if not, Oh well. The dumpster will work just fine.

Have you seen these? They are all inclusive and are plug and play into a GY6 or 250 scooter. At least the ones we used to keep manuals on. Everything drove right from the rear wheel and you just had to get the wiring and batteries right:
Here's a link.
