As the title says, the handlebars on my scoot rock left-to-right. The pivot point seems to be the bolt that connects the handlebars to the... uh... steering stem? Is that the right term? That bolt is as tight as I can make it without something stripping.
As you can imagine, this makes low speed maneuvers very difficult, and generally riding to be a bit squirrelly.

You mean it moves side to side or the handlebar ends pivot up and down? I can see it having some slack but it shouldn't make slow speed maneuvers difficult.

With play in the handlebars, I wouldn't even ride it. That's a death trap looking for a place to happen. Take it apart and check the bearings. They probably need replacing. Make sure they are well packed with grease.
Are you sure its the handlebars? It could be a tire with the belts separated. Had that happen before. Makes it feel like the bars are loose. Damn scary turning a corner on it like that.

there are or should be 2 "nuts" the top one is the jam nut it's the ring underneath that sets bearing preload,,get the front end off the ground loosen both first tho,,once up in the air tighten down the bottom ring or nut till you feel no play then tighten the top one,,,that should be end of story

If you can better explain WHILE SITTING on the scoot motor not running can you move the handlebars left and right MEANING LIFTING each side up and or down and the front wheel is STATIONARY(IS THAT WHAT YOU MEAN)? Alleyoop

This is what happens when your handlebars are loose...

Alleyoop Yes, that is what I mean. I can lift each side of the bars; when I lift one side the other goes down and vice versa. I'll see if I can get a picture/video later today to better explain what I mean.

Here's a pic that will hopefully explain what I mean:

If I'm not mistaken, that's where it mounts to the triple tree. (Front forks) Seems as though it's not put together correctly.

Did you see my pic up above in this thread? That was exactly what was wrong with my Bashans when I got them. I had to take that bolt out, ream the holes a little with a rat tail file, get a #8 hardness bolt that was tight in the opening, and bolt it down mega tight with an aircraft nut. That is the solution, I've been there. Rich

Is the #8 hardness bolt and aircraft nut something I can get at a hardware store? Edit; I'm getting mixed results when googling aircraft nut. Do you mean a nylock nut or something like a castellated nut?

That bolt goes right through and there should a NUT on the other side to tighten it up have you checked maybe the nut is loose on the bolt. Alleyoop

Good point Alley, it might be a little easier than what I said. Glavey, I was referring to the red arrow. An aircraft nut is the one with a nylon ring in it. If you get the metal clip they're harder to get off if you need to. You can get the bolts and nuts at Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, or Fastenal. They come in metric and Imperial. You have to wing some of this and just do it. I know you don't want to mess anything up but with Chinese scooters you just have to improvise. I wish I could give you more explicit instructions but get a bolt through there and wank it down. Rich
