Does anyone have any experience in hand-mounting 10" tires? I'm changing my rear wheel and tire on my Taotao 50 (hit one too many potholes, I guess), and considering trying to mount a tire on the new rim by hand. Crazy? Cocky? Dangerous?

The library bud explains that with a video it's on this sight. I got a nail in my tire a couple days ago I took mine to the shop. If you get the wheel of and take it to a shop probley your best bet. They need to be balanced and not sure if you have the tire tools to remove tire. Take your tire into the shop they will probley charge you like 20 bucks to mount and balance. Good luck bud tires are very important for your safety on the road good thing you caught a problem before getting hurt.

Thanks for that jvino! I guess I've got computer lag or something. While I was posting this thread, Google found this link; www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299597that actually looks kind of interesting . . . still interested in hearing feedback if anyone has tried it!

You need spoons to remove the tire and put a new one on well I looked at your online address not really sure how that works learned something new today never saw that method. Did you tire get like a bubble in the side wall from hitting the pot holes? I never tried it that way but when I had dirt bike I uses spoons to remove and put tire on. The library on this sight shows a difrent way to do the process. Not really sure how to balance a tire without a machine. good luck.

Actually, the tire seems fine; it's the RIM that has developed a "warp" (not out of balance, but actually out of round)! Also a slight wobble, but from what I have checked so far the shaft seems OK. I chalked it up to a major impact with said pothole and CHINESE steel!

You might need a new rim if it's bent it would defenataly be out of balance that way.

We are absolutely on the same page, jvino! The new rim arrived Saturday, I've already mounted it on the scooter (without a tire, just to check the fit), and since the new tires don't arrive until Tuesday I'm using today and tomorrow to paint it black to match the front rim. While I had it mounted on the scooter, I revved it up a few times and NO WARP OR WOBBLE! It appears that we nailed this one. Thanks for your input!

You might want to think about doing a low temp "bake" on your rim to harden up the paint. Some paints will not harden up enough in 2 days to be able to put any pressure on them as in mounting tires.
Of all the scooter tires I have mounted in the last 6 years, 10, 12, 13, and 14" the tens were the hardest. Biggest thing to help is plenty of slippery lube. The tens were on a 83 riva and it may have been more the particular rims than the tire size though. Warming up the tire is a must too, an hour in the hot sun will help.

Good, I'm in luck then. Being in Texas, hot sun is something we have plenty of this time of year! I wonder if the heat of the sun would "bake" the paint too?!? Anyway, thanx jct842, I'm already prepared with lots of grease, oil, bacon grease, Crisco, whatever it takes! I just figured I would give mounting a shot, if all else fails there is a Honda shop less than half a mile from me that can mount and balance it for me. I just hate showing up there on my "Chinese" scooter (immediate attitudes, if you know what I mean)!

I got a flat on my scoot, took it off to a local tire store. $12 to mount tire, including new valve stem & balanced. This was on the used scoot I had.

Glad could be some what of a help. Like gen seeker says need to get tire balanced and put on rim at a tire shop. You should be back on the road close to when I am I got a nail in tire and got a new one. Good job bud get that rim painted and should be dry by the time you tire arrives.
