Been ridding fine since I got it. Installed an alarm last week that is notorious for draining batteries but no probs. rode last night. put in gas today and it wont start. the gas level was pretty low mind you. The electric start wants to turn over but turns less the more I try so I am assuming it is power related. if i leave the key in off position for 5 min and turn it back on the starter tries to turn it over. then it lags slower and weaker with each try until it wont turn. sounds like the battery is drained?. but today is the first time i couldn't get the kick starter to work....

It might be a good idea to tell us what engine your scooter has first of all. Then one of the things that will be important is what the voltage your battery is at and if you have tried to charge it. If you can get it running we need to know what the voltage is with scooter running. At idle and at half throttle. How old is the battery? Getting a new battery will not solve the problem if scooter is not charging.

I haven't tried to charge it. how would I get the voltage while its running? multimeter?

Was this happening before you installed the ALARM System. Those things drain you battery overnight. Most people take those things off, the charging system on the scoots are Marginal at best. So if you have a multi meter get it started by first charging the battery then test the battery at IDLE and then rev it up to 4-5k and see what it reads it should be 13+ volts. Get back on the testing. Alleyoop

Do you have spark?

I haven't figured out how to test for "Spark" yet. Ive seen it around the net but haven't checked into it. ism assuming it concerns the spark plug. i just located that the other day but I need to get a ratchet set to get back there without disassembling the body.
wasn't happening before the alarm. yea i read that all up and down the reviews on amazon but i wouldn't ride it to the mall if wasn't on there. I think I'm going to need to install a power switch for it. Any suggestions?
I just bought a charger so lets see what happens. ill have to buy a multimeter another time

Alarms they can disarm in a minute, what you want is a CHAIN LOCK so you can lock up either both wheels or one wheel to a pole. If they want to steal it they would have to pick it up and carry it away. Alleyoop

Only thing is the bigger the chain the bigger the bolt cutter they bring to steal what ever you lock up! When they can cut loose a $30,000 harley and have it in a truck going away in under 2 min there is little you can do to protect a scooter that talented crook wants to take home. Best thing I can think of is good insurance. The heavier bikes do better as it takes more help to lift them into a truck.

The battery was dead alarm - main suspect how long do batteries generally go without charging on a scooter?

If the charging system fails, you will get 4 maybe 5 starts from your battery depending on how far you ride each time.
Sounds like your alarm system has overloaded the charging system. I know you don't trust it to the parking lot police, but the best protection is a heavy duty U lock and chain it to something solid. Alarms are disabled in seconds.
In the meantime, you need to get a multimeter (auto-ranging is best if you have little experience with one) and do the tests for charging systems that are listed here in the tech section. Tell us what the results of the tests are and we can help from there.

To check spark on plugs if that is one of the things your referring to take plug out connect it to the boot and put it up against motor and crank it either electric start or kick start. If you have someone who can help you should be able to get start with kick starter. But since your batterie is dead from alarm or some wrong wiring issue it will not work obviously good luck keep us posted.

JV is correct. If you have a stator with a white-green-yellow pigtail and a red/black wire running to the CDI, you don't need a battery to start it. In fact, that type of GY6 will run with the battery disconnected. It makes the spark independent of the battery. You can check for spark as JV described and kicking it.
