Does anybody know of a fuel sending float that won't be destroyed by my gasoline? I keep having giant chunks of my float coming off and going into my tank (there's a piece in there now), and this is the second time I've replaced the float. What do I do?!

Take it out before it ends up clogging fuel line or carb. you can live with out a fuel gauge. I think I rode for at least 10 years before I had a bike with a gauge! In them days only cars had them!

Used to carry a small thermos of gas with me just in case I added wrong and ran out of gas. I'd get another 50 miles on that thermos.

unfortunately, when the fuel becomes E15, floats like those on the fuel meter asm will disintegrate faster. the only solution is a float that will not be attacked by alcohol. one of the admins posted info about a meter repairt and he used a brass float, but no link to potential suppliers was given.
fwiw.. i have the same problem with this 50 i just acquired, and don't want to replace it for a bad float.

A new lead pencil. A quarter inch dowel rod. Either makes a gas gauge that will not lie and can be calibrated in miles gone or miles to go! Works with gas and crapahol!

drain the tank,,,clean out the plastic foam bits ,,,take the float rod off the sending unit and find an old carb shop in your area and have them put a real brass float on there,,,end of story,,,or get one on ebay and solder it on yourself,,,easy peasy

or remove the rod and forget it and go the rufus roughcut method by miles between fillups,,i did this for decades before gas gauges were en vogue
