Here's what I will say. I've been a fan of the engineering of the Japanese for years and always voted with my wallet. I can finally say I would buy American if I was in the bike market. The Harley Street 500 and 750, the Victory Gunner and the Indian Scout are proof that we can build good motorcycles that rival anyone and not cost a small fortune. Yay!
Next year Harley is finally kicking the 45 year old XR-750 to the curb in favor of the engine from the Street 750 on the dirt tracks. Getting outrun by bored out Ninja 650s (about 700cc) is finally getting to them.

It is going to take a long time to convince the "cult" harley owners that there is another american bike. Maybe till the cult boys just get old and die off. Damn I would like to have a scout.

The thing is, as I see it, that a large percentage of Harley buyers are sold on the "Mystique". If Polaris can hypnotize people they will draw those people into the fold. The "Oldest American Motorcycle Company" pitch just might be the hook.

It is nice Jct,,,but i'll wait a couple years,,,i try never to buy first year production,,,even with all the computer simulations and extensive testing they go thru to get to the showroom ,,it's still not "real world",,,polaris is making some of the most inovative designs out there,,,time will tell with this scout,,,if it flies well i'll take a chance on one,,,i ain't dead yet,,,i'll start seeing them at the rockstore soon and i'll start the badgering questions to the actual owners,,,but first the minor build on my stella then the bmw r1150r ,,,,then i'll have the scooter, the dualsport, the light cruiser (the scout) the freeway flier (the r1150R),,,that will round out the stable,,,the scout has definately peaked my interest,,,but a few changes are in order just by looking at it,,,have to get the forward footcontrols moved and that can't happen till the exhaust gets rerouted,,,and the belt needs to go away in favor of a chain,,,and the crazy handlebar setup from outer space needs to leave as well,,,they look like a tiller off a sailboat,,,i'm sure vance and hines ( as well as supertrapp) is already working on the pipes,,and renthal and all the aftermarket companies and even polaris themselves are hard working at the controls as i type,,the silly rear shock angles need to be corrected,,all in all very minor corrections,,,,this is going to be a major hit for polaris,,,lots of room for customization on this one,,,,perfect

Just did a quick net blast and harley sales are flat,,,they attribute this to people waiting for the 500 & 750 street series bikes,,,us old dinosaurs are dying off ,,,why in heavens name would the younger set buy a pricey say a sportster with lackluster performance ,heavy with crappy brakes,,,when you can get a fz6 for less money and would absolutely kill it dead in every catagory on the list?,,,The "mystique" is wasted on the new riders they want power ,reliability, decent suspensions and the brakes,,and who wouldn't?,,,This is another huge reason i do what i do with my mods,,,better performance is what i'm after,,,and the younger set wants it too,,,lighter more capable machines ,,easier to handle ,,,and the power to go when you pull the loud handle

A long list of necessary mods and he calls it "perfect". I'd have to see some better support. There's not many dealers yet.

It's beautiful except for the radiator, it spoils it and I wouldn't own it because of it's looks. Get the radiator between the down tubes like the Vulcans or I'm not writing a check. The radiator spoiled the Valkyries and the Triumph Rocket looked like a car radiator:

i always wondered about the rad on some bikes too ,,,but then theres the custom makers that can do anything you want in copper with a beehive style honeycomb,,tall and thin ,,fit between the frame downtube,,,instead of looking like a piece of plywood cut to size then strapped on sideways,,,but then there goes whats left of any kind of budget,,,there's $500-700 right now,,,but it sure would look cool

I would get one. I like the solo style, the low seat, the power, EFI, the powder blue (or whatever that colour is) Once I relearn how to ride on two The 3 gal tank.........it's an around town cruizer. Get a Chieftan for road trips. (but i really like the Chief Vintage too) Polaris should be applauded for bringing back the Indian. The did well with the Victory line up, and should do well with this line up.
