Hello forum, I just bought a 2014 JiaJue 150cc and have 23 miles on it. I've rode it twice with a shaky start up but it would start and was riding fine. This weekend (aug 9 2014) I tried starting and it died right away and has done that ever since. We adjusted the air/fuel ratio and checked all the lines and everything looks fine. With only 23 miles I wouldnt think anything would be wrong?? Can someone help diagnose? I can take video if that helps. Thanks, Kelly

On a bike this new you think it might be that? It seems like that might be out of my "garage mechanic" realm

Same procedure but the gap is a little wider. Set them to .004" and .005". And yes, they come from the factory needing a valve set. Did you change out the fluids? The shipping oil is worthless. We have valve set tutorials under engine in the Library. They have pictures if you'd like to look at some static images.

Valve spring is set at .003 for both intake and exhaust. We changed the oil as soon as we got it. After it was put back together, this is what it still sounds like (video attached). On the first start, it went for about 10 seconds and started to struggle, then died.

I played the video a few times it does not sound good . I would drain the oil and look for metal pieces . I would also check for free play on the flywheel .

It wants to Fire I can hear that so it may be that it is not getting enough fuel and or the IDLE SPEED screw is set to low and the butterfly is completely closed. Turn the Fuel Ratio Mixture screw CLOCKWISE until it stops do not force it just until it stops. Then turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE 2 1/2 turns and see if it then starts. That should be more than enough fuel for it to run pretty good. Also turn the IDLE SPEED SCREW 1/16 Clockwise just in case the butterfly is completely closed. If it starts and idle to high just let it idle like that and the idle may drop some. After say 5 minutes of idling the REAR WHEEL SHOULD not be spinning and the idle should be around 1500 rpms. You want an idle that the BACK WHEEL is NOT SPINNING. Alleyoop

Does it have spark? pull the spark plug, snap the boot back on the end and hold the gapped end on the valve cover while someone holds a brake handle and cranks the engine over.
Does it have compression? While the spark plug is out hold your finger or thumb over the spark plug hole while cranking the engine. If you finger/thumb is blown off the hole you should have sufficient compression.
Are you getting fuel to the carb? Pull the fuel line off of the carb and let it dangle in a cup. Pull the vacuum line off of the intake manifold and suck gently on the line. Fuel should then run into the cup while you are sucking on the vacuum line.
Put the spark plug back in (just snug it down good. Too much force and you might strip the threads) Either spray some carb cleaner in the nipple on the intake manifold, or dribble a little gas in there and try to start the scooter. If it pops/trys to run then stops you aren't getting fuel from the carb to the cylinder.
Let us know what happens.

Good luck, let us know if any of the suggestions fixed the problem. Once started you then can fine tune. Alleyoop

There's some good information in this thread! If I may hijack for a minute - is it possible to have spark when the plug is out of the engine and not spark when you put it in the engine? I do have spark when I arched it on the valve cover bolt. I put it back in and sprayed ether in the intake vacuum line and got NO hint that it wants to start.
