gy6 50cc engine, starts good on cold engine and idles down after warm up. runs out good. when you try to restart on warm engine it tal kes an excessive amount of cranking to start. once it starts idles and runs good and reaches max speed and rpms. did routine maintenance about a 100 miles ago including valves, set at .003. the starting problem just surfaced. what do I need to check thx Jim

Check the ENRICHER, take it off when COLD and lay it on it's side and cover the hole with your thumb and start the motor. Now keep you thumb on the hole and watch the Valve on the ENRICHER and see if it EXTENDS out about 1/4 of an inch in about 3-5 minutes. Then shut the motor off and watch the enricher and see how long it takes for the Valve to RETRACT. Alleyoop

Those are classic valve symptoms. If resetting to .003" doesn't do it try .002". If that doesn't do it try .002" intake and .003" exhaust.

reset valves to .002, started good ran at top speed all normal. shut off and had to wait 3/4 minutes before it would restart. it does this consistantly. do I need a new enricher?

No, since you checked the enricher and it is working like it should and it retracts within about the same amount of time it extends and it will start after that amount of time what does that tell you. It needs more fuel to start, so turn the fuel ratio mixture counter clockwise 1/4 of a turn try to start it 1 hit 2 hits the most, if still no start turn it 1 more 1/4 of a turn counter clockwise etc.. Did you try .002" intake and .003" exhaust. I'm just pulling your chain...I just want to see how many times I can get you to set your valves. Have you tried .009" and .003 Angstrom? Yeah, try that, just once more.

Yeah, try that, just once more. on the 3rd try I went ahead and adj. that 3rd valve that sits off to the side by it'self and now all is fine!!!!!!

update: pulled carb and drilled out plug over a/f screw. while I had it off went ahead and opened bowl and removed jets and cleaned, everything looked ok. I had a new enricher so compared it to existing one and the old one seemed to be stuck about half way. reinstalled carb w/ new enricher and adj. a/f. idles and runs good and starts everytime warm or cold engine.probaly didn't need to open up the carb but I had it off so figured now is the time to check. maybe in another 20 years of this I'll be almost as good as Alleyoop. and MAYBE NOT

Good to hear it is acting good now, the motors should start on 1 or 2 short hits when you go to start them if not something is not right if you have to keep on cranking. Alleyoop
