Looks like my brother should now officially have my title of faceplant, since he just took the worst fall of all today. We were riding on a sidewalk coming home today, me on my scooter and him on his Honda Elite 80. On this sidewalk there is a small bridge that is slightly elevated, so if you go over it at say 15 MPH, you jump a little bit into the air, which is great fun if you don't go too fast. Unfortunately, he decided to hit this ramp at 40 MPH. His rear shock was broken before-hand, but since the bike did not absorb the impact, his rear tire lifted off the ground, tilted the bike sideways, and flung him off. He held onto the handlebars and the bike drug him a good 20 45 feet before coming to a stop. He's pretty dinged up. Oddly enough the Honda Elite took barely any damage despite the intense fall. A minor scuff on the mirror, a broken reflector, and the right side foot peg had it's bottom broke off it. The bike looks like the fall never happened. He on the other hand, does not. He wanted me to take some pics and share them on here. DO NOT OPEN THE LINK IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE SIGHT OF BLOOD AND INJURIES!!! imgur.com/a/tUml0#0

Maybe he should get one, since he likes jumps! I personally don't like that kind of danger, and I've only done that jump at 15MPH once! So much for riding our scooters out to a restaurant tonight

I think you guys should switch over to bicycles, anything with a motor I don't think you guys are ready for.

That may come sooner than you think if you two keep riding like that! Riding with a broken shock isn't real bright either. Riding on the side walk isn't legal in most places for a reason.

Hey, I don't ride like that! I try to be as careful as humanly possible! My brother is quite the opposite I don't want to sound like an irresponsible rider, because I'm not! Despite my name, of course. As for the shock, that's not my problem. And over here there is no problem with riding on the sidewalk. I've even asked police officers and they said just limit your speed to what other bikers would. So I do.

All I have to say is you two guys are not the sharpest knifes in the drawer. And you two will not learn until one of you gets hurt really bad or worse.

I can't help but feel a tad hurt by that statement. Think what you want, but I know where I stand in terms of my intelligence and common sense. He learned his lesson and he doesn't want to do any stupid stuff like that again. And like I said, I try to be as safe as possible, just like everyone else here.

Many times the truth hurts but that may at times wake people up. Common sense(HUH) riding scooters on the sidewalk and you think that is just peachy keen just to name one. Alleyoop

Yes actually, that is peachy keen. What's the difference between 8 miles per hour on a scooter and 8 miles per hour on a bicycle? Not to mention this sidewalk is wide enough for THREE bicycles. Not to mention if it's not illegal! I don't know what kind of sidewalks you're riding on, but it sounds like your sidewalks are filled with oil spills or something. I don't feel like arguing what's right and what's wrong. I would rather be on a sidewalk and not worry about CARS going 45 miles per hour that can flatten you at any moment.
Like I said I don't want to argue. This happened and there is no undoing it. It was an accident. It's not like he wanted to lay it down.

Easy Plant, we're all concerned about your brother and hope he gets well soon. It's a forum, the guys are going to say what they think, no offense meant. I gotta agree, stay off the sidewalk even if it is legal. I get out there on the road and plant (HAR!) my arse in the middle of the lane. It's safer than a sidewalk. I also gotta say your brother ain't wrapped real tight. Running out of oil, broken shock, related to you, lots of problems there. He needs to start thinking like his brother the fern. It's amazing how a bike can spill and not get trashed, I've never understood that. I think the handlebar and foot peg protect it. Anyway, the guys mean no harm, just opinionated. Rich
