So I just changed the oil in my scooter. I go to start it, and it's having issues starting. Then it starts, and the back tire is spinning pretty fast. I hit the rear brake. The scooter stalls out. I put the scooter on both tires (not on the centre stand). The scooter will not roll backwards. I get it started, it nearly takes off on me. Even with no key in the ignition, it won't roll backwards. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The issue of the tire spinning fast & scooter taking off sounds like your idle is too set too high. If you've got your scooter on the center stand your rear tire should *just* turn a bit, not spin like it is trying to take off and fly.
For the rear wheel not rolling back, have you checked your CVT belt? If it is frayed or worn, it could jam up the clutch.

Ok. I looked at the belt. It's frayed in a couple spots. I just took ma quick video as well. The cvt is spinnign the whole time with the engine at idle. Is that proper? It's hard to spin the clutch just with my hand in the proper direction. Is that proper? Thanks.

Your problem lies under that cover somewhere....variator, clutch, or belt

Well it is not your variator, the belt is up on the clutch pulley. It is your clutch assembly, it's either the clutch itself or the pulley and clutch assembly are not rotating freely on the shaft. Which would mean the needle bearings are shot it the pulley and clutch do not rotate freely on the shaft. Alleyoop

Ok thanks alleyoop. I'll tear into it tomorrow. Could you tell that from the video? Thanks.

Yes, just look at the belt in the variator as it is running it is down and it is up all the way on the clutch pulley(NORMAL AT IDLE). If the variator had a problem and the belt was up high on the variator it would pull the belt down in your clutch pulley. Take the bell off and the belt, you should be able to spin the clutch and pulley Assembly on the shaft. the only thing that should turn the shaft is the BELL when the CLUTCH PADS get thrown out to grab the bell which happens with centrifugal force.

So I pulled it all apart. One of the pads had come off and was jammed against the bell. Can I just replace the thing the pads (sorry I don't know exactly what's it's called) are attached to? The belt has a chunk out of it too. Thanks.

Yep. Time for a new clutch. Check out the moving ads at the top of the page. Most of them will have what you need. I've personally done business with BPNW and Absolutely Scooters. Both are good.

You can change the tensioner arms out but it is a real PITA. I agree with Andy, just buy a clutch assembly, it's a helluva lot easier and not much more coin. Here's how you swap them out if you wish to try.

So my parts just arrived today. I put in a new clutch, yellow spring, and new belt. She's running like a beaut again. Thanks everyone. Now to get some more kilometers on it before it's too cool. Thanks.
