Simple to test the diaphragm of your petcock. Like I stated above, pull the vacuum line off of the intake manifold. If gas dribbles out it is bad. Apply suction to the vacuum line. if you taste gas the diaphragm in the petcock is bad.

In regards to clear lines, both fuel and vac, I had a leaking ACV valve diaphragm. The bike was running like crap and using gas. I discovered the problem when I ran a clear vac line from the ACV nipple to the intake manifold:
You could actually see gas bubbling down the line and going into the manifold. Another thing that is beneficial is that if everything is working properly you can see the moisture in the line condense showing you have decent vac in that line. I use the same line for fuel and vac. With a fuel line you can see if the gas is moving through the line, there's usually tiny air bubbles which is OK, they float out in the carb bowl. You can get clear line online at all kinds of places, I think I got this batch at Bike Bandit. And yes, that fuel line got swapped out for clear. One problem with clear is that it will get brittle after a while. You have to keep an eye on it. Rich

If you go to a decent saw shop they sell silicon rubber gas hose that is tinted yellow. It is claimed it will not go bad or get hard and you can see thru it. Thursday I just put a piece on a 50cc scooter. Last time I bought it I got it in 3 sizes, the 2 smallest go on chain saws and the 3/16 goes on scooters. It also comes in 1/4. and is expensive but worth it. I got 15 feet and the bill was $26, 5' of each size.

Yep and running poorly in lower rpms Everything else is great. Just getting only 60 mpg, when I used to get 80+mpg. I'm going to try a different carb.

You do know it could just be a tired motor, loss of some compression or something in your CVT. What really would tell you is a tach, but you would need to know what it was the last time you were getting 80mpg. I always tell people get a tach it is your fortune teller, it will tell you the past present and future. It will let you know when something is going south on the scoot. Alleyoop

Yes, have you checked your CVT belt? What if it's slipping? What if your clutch pads are glazed and slipping? What if a tensioner spring is toast? Boom, your mileage goes to hell. A tach tells the tale there.

seanstr said "So, this is my question? Can a minor exhaust leak that is undetectable with the ear cause bad mileage?" Answer: No If you are only averaging 60 mpg, on many, many consecutive tank fills, and you are sure you are not loosing any to leaks or vandals....then you must be using it. Do you know what your original variator weights were? I'm still confused by your statement about what you have now....13gr...14gr....rollers...sliders Have you checked brake temps after driving scooter...is one dragging a bit...(don't get burned when doing this) Have you done anything to the clutch? Cleaned out the belt dust...checked pads for glazing....maybe it's slipping some Do you have a tach installed?.....It would tell you if the rpm's at your normal cruise speed have increased. Still say pull the spark plug first...if it is covered with cartbon....it's getting too much fuel Read this thread: scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/10488/long-ngk-c7hsa-lastI'm still having this problem, so in reading this over again. I do not know what weights the rollers where. As for the 13 gram & 14 gram rollers and sliders, I mixed 13 gram sliders with 14 gram rollers, at least that's what I still have. But what I truly remember was that I mixed 14 gram rollers with 11 gram sliders. I have a lazer temp gauge and I could check my brake temps this way. What kinds of temperatures am I expecting if they are functioning normally? The rest have been answered elsewhere.
