My scooter has begun making a RING....RING....RING noise at a very fast rate when I roll off the throttle. I thought the fender was hitting the tire, but that is not it. Sounds like it is coming from around Variator to the clutch area. It does not do it on the stand. I changed the belt and the noise is still there. Braking has no affect. When I roll off the noise starts. If I roll on, even to just coast but increase the RPMs, the noise goes away. Any thoughts? Could this be the weights in the Variator? Thanks All, you have all been so helpful. Knot Tide Down

High pitched sounds are almost always feedback thru the system. Check your mic placements and try making them less hot to eliminate it. That should get rid of the RING RINGs. Also, I'd look for a fan near a speaker or a mic as the sound is intermittent.

Oops... One too many concerts...
Sounds like the brake pads are rubbing when you let off the juice. Could be a bad return spring in the caliper or it might be time to replace them altogether.

I'd go with something rubbing in the clutch. Pull the bell and look around. Check the tensioner arms and make sure one of them isn't cracked and check the tensioner springs also. The variator is a possibility as you mentioned, pop it off and check the weights.

It's in the clutch you may have broken or one of the springs has stretched,,, or the variator is loose,,, jingle jingle jingle,,, if it was a dry clutch ducati I'd say you were fine

Lets see if it were the weights they make a rattling sound, so I also suspect something in the clutch is hitting metal to metal. Alleyoop

The clutch pads were glazed. I sanded them a little, but noticed the belt may be rubbing on the bottom of the cover! What would be causing that? A weak clutch spring? It is only when I roll off. If I keep even just a little bit of power so as to coast and not power brake, it does not make the noise. Thanks for the help. I could use suggestions on a performance variator and a performance clutch kit. Thanks again

when my clutch got stuck open, the belt wrapped around itself, and snapped.
how much, slack you got? whats the width of the belt? its like the belt sits on the cvt, squished between the width on the front, and back but like at the same time, so add like if yo8ur widths 18mm x 2. and its squished between 36mm of metal on each side. the metal doesn't change, the belt with it's rubber, does. itll still be on the v's of your V-belt. just dropping down in it. however much width wear, is the service limit to check on a scooter belt. that, and if its dragging or but, thats how to check your belt loose. on a scooter.
