I was just offering my opinion about a Roketa as a low maintenance scooter. Obviously we don't agree. That's alright. It takes a Committee with differing opinions sometimes to help someone reach an informed choice. I hope we've helped the OP in reaching his.

Frankly, I'm glad you've had awesome luck with your scoots JR. Mine did nothing but cause me headache after headache. That's why I joined this forum in the first place.
Fact is, I loved the Roketa 250. I just really hated the engine. If it hadn't given me so much trouble, I know I'd have at least 15k on it by now. I ride every day at least 60 miles and I love to ride. I go the long way just because I get more saddle time. My Nighthawk hasn't let me down yet. My Roketa did nothing but let me down. I wish it was otherwise, but oh well.

Next person can buy the same thing and ends up walking more than riding/driving.
Myself I've not done anything magic with my 250's but I've got two good ones, if they blow up tomorrow they served me well and I had a blast.

And that's why I'm here. Learn before getting burned. Or at least better the odds.

richard, If it says Honda on it you have far better odds of it lasting you a good many miles than other name brands. I'm not knocking them, but Honda pretty much means reliability. A Honda Ruckus, or the new PCX would be good choices either one. Or the Forza. If you want something with more power then the Forza is your ride. It will cost you more up front, but far less upkeep down the road. It only comes in red, BLEH, but think of it as a beefy 250. Its actually a 279cc. and paint it something besides RED! Honda Forza

Yes, the Forza would fit all my wants. But, the price is at this time an issue. I believe a 50cc wouldn't be safe and reliable even in the city and I would need something of 125-150cc class and affordable. I have built/raced cars and repaired bikes so the mechanical and electrical skills I have. I also have to deal with financial and legal/political issues for the time being.

The only 50cc bike i would even consider is like the one KZ has it has an actual gearbox and can attain speeds far beyond what a 50cc auto can even dream about,,,the bi-metro would be my call even then,,,because it's a 110cc i believe, and can get to decent speed and stay there,,,,and really inexpensive,,,,the bi-metro was on my short list,,altho it's not really a scooter in the traditional sense more of a small motorcycle,,it too has a proper gearbox with an auto clutch

If the Bi-Metro had been available when I was looking back in 2008, I would have one now. Rocket rolls at 50 mph all day on a flat road with no stress on its 50cc engine. The person I know with a Bi-Metro swears 55 is easy and it doesn't care about inclines. These Cub type bikes are incredible bargains, reliable and the engines are right out there to work on without hours of plastic removal. I can literally do a valve clearance check in ten minutes, start to finish. Here. Read this. Raves galore. Why somebody isn't advertising these bikes is beyond me. They are good for more than a $3000 Ruckus, A $2000 Metropolitan and certainly ten times more than a $3800 Vespa 50cc. www.motor-scooters-guide.com/bashan-bs48q2-moped.html

Well, short of a used bike on craigslist, a full motorcycle isn't in my price range. That's how I got a scoot in the first place. I CAN ride one, of course. Used one for the safety course, but I've come to really love and enjoy the automatic tranny of a scoot. Middle of the month next month is when I'll most likely have cash to spare. Hopefully the scoot will be running and I can get a trade in, or sell it. It's a Lancer 150, BTW. If any of you guys like 'em maybe we can work sumpin out.
