I ran this bad boy all summer long in the AZ heat and now that it's cooling down, the temp gauge is red lining at WOT and I have some excess coolant on my flootboard. Any ideas?

The fluid is coming out because it's overheating. First thing is check the thermostat. Put it in a pan of water with an oven thermometer. Turn the burner on and see what temperature it opens. If I remember right it's about 180. I could be wrong on that. You might want to check the Helix manual for the temp.

Thanks! Thermostat is screwed into the radiator right? Do these go bad that quick? You could just have a leaking hose and no the thermostat is on the engine, page 129 of this manual.

The thing in the radiator is the sensor that turns the fan on and off. It is also a source of overheating but since it has cooled off I doubt it's that. Rich

Look for leaks under pressure.

Is the fan coming on? Also, take the radiator cap off and start the bike, let it get nice and warmed up and see if the water starts swirling around in the radiator.

The only leaks I can find are coming from the reservoir cap.
Cooling fan is coming on until air gets into the system when pressure blows coolant out res cap. I'll do the swirling test mañana.

So the fan is not cooling, or the coolant is not circulating, or both. Sounds like a water pump to me. If it's the bike in your Avatar then here is your pump; Water Pump

If it's the bike in your Avatar then here is your pump; Water PumpI am of the opinion that the fan and temperature sensor for the fan are operating properly. I am keen to your idea that it is the water pump it does appear that the pump functions at times and cools down the system a little bit every once in a whileas I do get a fluctuating temperature gauge. and at other times I do get a hog reading that is lower than an overheating reading that is abnormal. if that sounds like a bad water pump to somebody would you please confirm it?I am just a little shocked that a scooter I purchased in June has a bad water pump with only 3300 miles on it.I have taken unbelievably good care to do all maintenance as suggested.

Did you do the swirling test? That is for the water pump.

Did you check both of those thermostats in a pan of water? How can you 100% take them off of the table until you test them. Did you order a new one without testing the old one? Hmmm? Did you Mattie? OK...lean forward:
Next time listen up.....

If it's the bike in your Avatar then here is your pump; Water PumpThe fan comes on when there is enough coolant in the system. After it overheats and loses coolant then the fan stops turning on cause it needs burped. Thanks for the link. Is this a job for a mechanic or simple enough for me to do?
