Hi on my gilera nexus 300ie I used to get 70mph from 7000rpm now to acheive the same speed I need to be doing around 7500rpm this seems to be getting worse too any ideas

Well, seems that the engine is still rotating properly, so the problem is in the delivery, IE the transmission. Check your tranny fluid, make sure it isn't low or becoming discolored. If it's been a while, it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and check all the fluids.

How does the shifting feel otherwise? Does it ever 'hiccup' while trying to upshift?

Have you checked your belt? As they wear they are not as wide. This means they won't ride up as far on the pulley and it actually changes your ratios. You should have a width spec in your service manual. Pull the CVT cover and measure the belt, you may need to replace it.

Yep the problem is worn out BELT and or WEIGHTS which would require higher rpms to reach a speed that before you could run at a lower rpm.

Its done around 10,000 yeah still pulls very well will check belt and fluid tomorrow thanks

Yes I think the boys are on this one spot on ,,,it's a cvt so either the belt lost width ( my call as well) or the clutch is slipping which I doubt because it wouldn't last very long if it was

Or a long shot the spring in back I going away or rollers are getting shot ,,,

OK so wow a belt is expensive didn't think I would be that much and I have to buy the silly variator tool. Any how so rollors seen as I prob will need to change these as the service book recommends at this millage I do how I I attachive a higher speed for lower revs? So 70mph at 6500rpm save fuel etc

Heavier weights, they push the inner pulley farther over and therefore higher ratios.

OK so cover off checked belt its 220mm which is same as new one so waiting on the tool now to check rollers. But if these look OK what else could it be

As long as you have the belt off,,check the clutch,,,pull the bell and see what it looks like inside

The width is usually the second number on the belt and will be something like 18 or 20. Use an impact to get the variator off. I've never used a variator tool, it's not necessary. When you check the rollers look for flat spots. Even small ones affect performance. Even if your belt has adequate width it could still be that. The sides lose their grab after so many miles. That stuff is expensive, I spent over a hundred on a belt and air filter for my SYM 300i. If it's not the front of the CVT it's the clutch. I'd take it off while you have the variator off and inspect it. Use an impact. Rich

What are signs of wear on the clutch sorry

There's little pads that come out as the RPMs increase and contact the inside of the bell. If they are glazed or worn down you won't get full engagement and the RPMs go up but the speed doesn't. There's a spring inside but if it was shot it would go into the higher ratios immediately and your engine would bog down. Get us some pix of the inside of the clutch bell and the pads that engage it. Also pix of the variator would help. Look in the CVT section of the Library, there's all sorts of stuff on variators and clutches.
