I'm using IE 11 and Windows 7 and would like to clean up my Favorites List by removing unwanted links. When I still had Windows NE, so many years ago, I had a free ware program that I could select a folder from the favorites list, such as Scooters, and select a link, open and explore it, and then choose to save or delete it. The program would then return to the Scooters folder where I could select another link and on until I was done with that folder before moving on to another if desired. It made the process of house cleaning the favorites list much easier than doing it one baby step at a time but it was lost with that hard drive. I'm wondering if any of you know of such a program, even if there is a small fee. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Internet Explorer has never been that good with favorites/bookmarks, unfortunately, and none of the major browsers have this feature to the best of my knowledge. Due to the lack of a program that can do what you're requesting, it would almost be a good idea to just Ctrl-Select (Multiselect) the bookmarks you do not want and erase them that way. As for exploring them before you get rid of them, well, that's an entirely different matter. If you don't know what bookmarks you want to get rid of, you can just open the favorites bar in IE and click through them. If you don't want that bookmark, press delete! Sorry I don't know which program you're talking about. I'll see if I can't find it, and report back. By the way, you must have a TON of bookmarks to have to complain about not knowing which ones to get rid of (my brother is that way, he doesn't even have folders, just a long list of about 1000+ bookmarks that he just scrolls through every time he wants to get to one of his bookmarks!)

In firefox all one does when you click a folder is right click and choose delete, the folder stays open as long as the curser stays on it and you can click as many as you want. IE is a bad choice for a browser.

The only browser I hate more than IE is Chrome. Both of them like to take over your machine. I use Firefox and most everyone I know does too.

Go to your toolbar if you have it enabled click on Favorites, then click on Organize Favorites and a menu box appears. Right click on any item you want to delete and hit the Delete button for each one you want removed.

Yes, I know how to do that. There used to be a way to view the site and then judge whether to keep or delete without leaving the favorites list and having to go back to it. A lot faster and easier than reviewing each individually, making a list and then doing as you say. It was a shareware program for originally for Windows 3 but those nice little programs seem to be a thing of the past. Now it's all about how to make me look good to the boss instead of personal productivity.
Oh well. One of these lonely, long winter nights I'll get motivated. Relearn the boolean algebra and how to program windows. Or just go in and delete the mess.
