Bashan, The guy I got this buggy from has some aftermarket headlights on it. I have them disconnected because I'm worried they may be the cause of the stator failure, I don't want to cook my new stator.

Is there a way to see if they are pulling too many amps or am I being too careful?

measure them. put your amp meter in series and read what it says.

What is the wattage on the bulbs? If you can get a multi in series on the supply wire to the lights set your meter to DC amps. Watts = Amps X Volts or Amps = Watts/Volts. So 10 amps X 12 v = 120 Watts. I would think 10 amps on the aux light circuit would work OK. Here's a good way to do it to provide a buffer between your stator and the lights. I think you have a three phase stator with a 3 yellow wire R/R? Run your lights right off of the battery with a fuse based on the previous formula. The battery is a buffer between the lights and the stator. You would need to get a volt meter hooked up in the battery circuit to measure draw, no big deal, run it in series. You have to switch it though or it will draw juice all of the time. The gauge is a small draw but it will eventually run the battery down. If you need a diagram let me know.
