Was reading the thread about disconnecting the PARS system (emissions)that was on the site a few days ago the guy had just got a scooter and was doing some up grades .and I remembered mine was still kind of connected,I had put a new aftermarket air cleaner on but didn't really do much more as far as disconnecting the PARS .any way I have read on this site from more than one member that the scooter will run better with out the Pars so I decided to remove all of it.I made cover plates for the head from some sheet metal I had laying around , removed all the vacuum lines plunged all the unnecessary ports and while I was at it replaced all the hoses.AND MAN what a difference runs smoother idles better and seems to have more power, the power part maybe wishful thinking but I'm very happy with the way it runs .only wished I'd done it sooner.so Scooter Doc helps again.got to love it.

The PAIR system has two connections to the engine. One is the vacuum line from the PAIR valve to the intake manifold. The vac valve opens the PAIR apparatus under throttle down low pressure when unspent fuel cascades into the exhaust. The vacuum line shouldn't affect anything if it is not leaking. The second is the fresh air feed south of the exhaust valve. The air feed shouldn't affect anything unless the air runs up into the combustion chamber. The idea is that the exhaust has pressure waves from the exhaust stroke that causes troughs of low pressure between the high pressure of the exhaust gasses being forced out. Low pressure intervals pull fresh air in through the one way check valve which supposedly burns off unspent fuel. It is the check valve port that you cover up with the plate. So the PAIR system is theoretically passive and shouldn't affect performance. But if the pressure waves are not synchronized properly, which would not surprise me, then fresh air and exhaust gas may make their way back into the engine. I think the PAIR is a half assed, cheapo way for the Chinese to get bikes into the country. I think it is ineffectual and probably does affect performance. Plus it's ugly and in the way.

scoot,cyborg,Bashan couldn't agree more,disconnecting in my case defiantly made a difference in the way the scooter runs one thing I would say if you live in California as I do save ALL the parts so if the time comes when the arse#%** in Sacramento decide to test scooters for emissions you can go back to stock (I would really hate that) but I wouldn't put is past these arse#%&s they did it with cars.no grandfathering in cars that didn't have to be tested before the law was passed.if the car had smog equipment from the factory you had to comply even if the smog equipment was removed years ago.also in most states if a car is 30 years or older you don't have to smog it anymore.but here, you do.so I know this is getting a little far a field from scooters but if your state is changing it's emissions laws beware scooters and motorcycles maybe next.SO SAVE THE PARTS and as I said if your state is looking to changing your emissions laws fight it if you can.or your scooter maybe next.don't get me wrong I'm all for the environment I grew up in the 60's but when ONE 747 airliner takes off and the pollution from that ONE plane pollutes more than all the scooters in the state for a YEAR something ain't right.o.k. I'll get off my soap box.later.

The only thing a PAIR unit might do is reduce raw gas emissions. It is not going to reduce CO emissions and other dirty combustion products. Same with vapor recovery, it reduces gas vapor release into the atmosphere if the system is working. Most of the time the check valve is toast and it stops the bike. If the Chinese can get them right I would be the first to say leave them be. But they suck and they negatively affect the bike. Luckily, in Bama there is no testing and no legacy rules and nobody looks twice at the pollution equipment. Your VIN plate matches your certificate of origin? Bye pilgrim, have a nice time with your machine and do any damn thing you want to it. I grew up in the late 60's and early 70's too and I get a little guilty over pollution. But this Chinese emissions junk is a joke. I've taken them all apart and analyzed how they work. They are cheap and a joke, they are not helping emissions, they are a show for the EPA. I had a PAIR canister blow up on a 250 and I hadn't touched a damn thing! The pollution systems on my SYM work perfectly so it can be done. But it can't be done with cheap hoses and crappy vacuum valves. I agree, the scooters aren't doing the damage, they should concentrate on what is hurting the environment.

The part of the chinese scooters and polution that frosts my a$$ is most sellers are in ca. and most of the scooters sold in ca. can not legally be started up.....some sellers want you to believe they did a PDI on your new scooter!

There should be laws that prevent a seller from selling products out of his state that can not be sold in his home state. And I don't just mean scooters. Would prevent a lot of problems right up to out and out fraud.

When the inspection stations started up in Milwaukee/Waukesha I had no issues with my newer bike and truck but when I took my original '65 Buick in the idiot went nuts because he couldn't find any of the "required junk". He required I have it towed out and return with a mechanics certification. That was in '89.

richardv im glad we don't have any of that $hit here. I left mine on just because it hast caused any problems yet

I did have a little backfiring problem end of last year though. wonder if the check valve isn't working like it should. I do drive a LOT on dirt and the intake hose for the system is right down there where it can suck in dust. probably the valve is dirty inside and leaking. Oh well fix it later (remove it) I guess

its not a pass scoot,,,it's a california thing,,the online dealers aren't supposed to sell non ca compliant vehicles to californians even if it's for farm use,,,and they can't even start them here or face huge fines,,,it's a really screwed up thing,,,i was reading on this zongshen rx3 i've been contemplating,,they brought 3 or 4 into the country for epa/dot testing,,,they had to account for the bikes every minute and also record every mile while being tested,,,the powers that be have control issues

cyborg That's what I am getting at. If those ca dealers can not start the engine on what they ship to other states they should not be allowed to ship them out under any circumstance.

It's a Fu(ked deal i know,,,i live it,,,,i had to remove my car engine every other year and put the stock lump in to pass smog,,,even tho the hot mill actually burned cleaner,,,it wouldn't pass the visual,,,they took one look at it and it was not failed but rejected as a competition only engine,,,,idiots,,,i've been hearing rumors of smogging bikes too so i keep all the trash that comes on them in boxes so if they do pull some sh!t i can put it back on

They will probably want something on electrics next. I've read they are already going for them for not making enough noise.

some already have a noise generator fitted that makes supplemental noise under something like 25mph
