I live in California.  I understand that at a red light, I am allowed to filter between two lanes of traffic.  My question is... how do I filter when I want to make a right turn?  Am I allowed to ride in the right gutter and pass cars until I am at the front?  Also, when going straight at a stop sign, am I allowed to go through the stop sign next to another vehicle?  Or do I have move in front of the line and go through the stop sign alone?

Those questions will have to be answered by someone that lives in California or maybe their DMV site has the rules of the road for scoots.

I would not trust his opinion on this, he lives in a Westlake Village that is home for OLD FOLKS that can't remember if they went to the potty or not..LOL

They crap their pants and let the maid clean up OK??!!,,, Filtering,,, just did it yesterday and the day before that ad nauseum,,, when traffic is stopped and thick and heavy I go to the head of the class and go straight right whatever,,, I've turned right on a red right next to a cop car,,, not a problem,,, but you're only supposed to go 5 mph or less thru the mess or it's ticket time,,, so go slow and you'll be fine,,, oh after at least a 3second wait or the cops will tag you for a rolling stop

Here in Illinois I do not know what the filtering rules are. I do know you can make a right turn on red if it does not say no turn on red also you can make a left turn if the arrow has not been triggered after two sequences. Nach on the rolling stop here as well.

Well Pete means lane splitting and they'll have your nards handed to you here for doing that. You also can't advance to turn right by getting in the breakdown lane. And forget about advancing in the breakdown to go around an accident or stalled vehicle unless a cop waves you on.

It's illegal to pass on the right here in Wisconsin. Lane splitting is illegal as well.

What becomes a real problem is when you are at a light that won't trigger on a bike or even multiple bikes, you want to make a left, straight ahead gets the green but no left arrow and to top off there's a line of cars honking horns behind you! Was one local light like that and a few years ago some one in the dark of night took a screw driver or chisel and cut the pickup loop in the black top. City put it on a timer.

So I guess if I want to make a right, I will pass between 2 lanes of cars and find a gap near the front to sneak into and then turn right when I get to the intersection.

I filtered to the front of the line today at a red light.  I stopped next to a big pickup truck with loud rap music.  I had a feeling he would blow past me when the light turned green because he probably did not like that I filtered..  I was right.  I avoided him nicely when the light turned green.

From now on, I will filter and stop behind the first car so that the second car will not try to race me out of the gate.

In this day and age I would be very careful doing that. There are some people who have to be ahead or first no matter what. It really ticks me, I might be driving the car with cruise on at 55 and I get passed, then the asshole slows down and I have to jamb on the brake to avoid running up his tail pipe. That same asshole at a light has to be first and if you jump ahead at the first light he will remember at the second light and you loose when up against a car. The states that ban filtering have your safety in mind.

Have to agree with jct842, you better be careful...for you don't know who you're dealing with. Probably more than 50% of those on the road with you, are on drugs, or some other mind altering substance. Not a good thing when it comes to behaving rationally.

When you are lane splitting, filtering, or what ever it will be called next week....you are projecting a "Hoo-ray for me, and F... you" attitude. You are telling those around you. that you are special, too good to wait your turn, as they have to.....that you, reaching your destination, is a much more significant matter, than their reason for being on the road.

Legal or not, I wouldn't do it....and believe that sooner or later, those that do, will be involved in an altercation with an irate driver, or his vehicle

Im very careful when I do ,, and most of the time I use it for the right turn situation,, and it's never a problem with my dr,,, even people with attitude are dispached with authority ,,The Stella is a whole other game ,,, the conditions have to be right because it's not as quick and I don't want any trouble

Cali is the only state that allows lane splitting. Any other state the cops shoot first and keep going.
